For those following DIII development:
Systems Changes - Diablo III
Lots of changes that I wasn't expecting but surprisingly, for once, embrace them.
can't wait to test em out one the new beta patch hits this weekend
-
I will trade you my left kidney for one night with your battle.net account!
-
I am just wondering what are the reasons behind not letting people play beta — they will allow it anyway at some point why not now
-
Greeeaaatttt...read the article, all I can say is whatever release date is moving wayyy farther to the right. Game should have been released already.

Blizzard might not want to wait too much longer. Looks like Diablo III might have a little competition !

taken from diablo.incgamers.com:
The removal of the Scroll of Identification from the game, being replaced with a cast timer that you can use indefinitely when you receive an unidentified item.
The removal of the Nephalem Cube and Cauldron of Jordan – these have been replaced with a Town Portal icon on your hotbar that you can just use indefinitely.
The removal of the Mystic Artisan (say what??). They will be revisiting the Mystic at a later time as it would take too long to differentiate it.
Common white items will no longer be salvageable.
Three attributes have changed names, and their functions are much simplified
The blacksmith will now salvage your items.
Character stats are shown in the inventory window beside the paper doll, while the full list of stats is shown on the character UI.
A dedicated potions button as been created, since we didn’t realize how important it was to use previously
A few things to tack on to these fairly large changes include the removal of Attack, Defense, and Precision. It’s an interesting decision, due to the fact that they had explained how these umbrella-like attributes would be useful for all classes and prevent pigeon-holing your build. While I personally like the change, it does bring into question the idea of the build diversity. Will we still be able to have viable, interesting builds that the previous system allowed?
Another point of interest is the decision to remove the Mystic. While the Mystic only provided limited functions for gems, sockets, and enchantment, they felt that her abilities weren’t differentiated enough from the itemization already in place and they decided to forgo that granulation. This will certainly impact your arsenal as they will no longer receive enchantments. Perhaps we will just see one-shot enchantment scrolls as items? Or perhaps we’ll see enchantments removed entirely?
The last thing that I’d like to touch on is the quick slip-in of their desire to re-evaluate and consider the affixes that affect specific skills. We’re all familiar with Diablo 2‘s item system and it was one of the things on my wish-list for Diablo 3. So much of D2′s item pool was tied to the augmentation of those specific skills and it was certainly one of the greatest feelings in the item hunt when you find that optimal rare. This fact also implicates the skills system itself, though. Additional big changes to runestones and skills are promised, but they are not ready to be revealed yet. Perhaps we’ll see the re-introduction of skills points or something very similar? -

ty so much!

1. Still not invited to the beta yet
2. "Scrolls of Identification are no longer in the game". THIS IS BLASPHEMY
3. Release the game already Blizzard -
So you'll still have that 'unrwapping the present' feeling. -
-
I, for one, am all for no longer having to faff about with fiddly little scrolls.
-
I suppose they decided to drop tradition for convenience. Then again, there's people who actually want the tetris inventory system to come back, so I guess it's hard to please everyone?
-
I'm absolutely sick of waiting so I've decided to stop following D3 news and potential release dates alltogether. All it does is get my hopes up and then they're shattered (rinse & repeat).
SWTOR is a good alternative until D3 releases anyhow -
d3 beta is fun... but not alot to do, level cap and constant server resets make me not want to play.
-
Of course it's all personal opinion though, but I feel I really need to start finishing some games I left on the back-burner before D3 is released because it will be the only game I play lol. -
I just get the feeling that Blizz is still pretty much undecided with many core aspects of the game. I know it is beta and things like this should happen, but these changes seem to "radical" to be made so late...
Let us hope it is for the better... -
-
If anything, these "late stage" changes are a sign that the game is still far from ready for release. Given how Blizz has never been good at sticking to deadlines, at this rate I wouldn't be surprised if D3 wasn't released until 2013.
-
Or 2014... or 2015...
-
Ditto on trying to finish up some games on all 3 systems so I can 'squeeze-in' some Diablo 3 and reminisce on 'back in the day'!
-
Play Torchlight while waiting for D3. I think the Second title should be coming out any soon.
Im happy they just replaced the old stats system. I wont be disoriented when ill play the game. -

At this rate by the time D3 comes out I will be uninterested....nah of course im jk but I feel this way sometimes >_<

Holy crap..... hahaha editing text >.> goddammit!!! it make me sad....

Hmm... the situation seems even worse now that Blizz is looking for a new Senior Director for D3.
There was also the uncertainty whether they will bring it for consoles or not and they recently went public with their decision.
Considering the circumstances, I won't be surprised if they'll push the release to 2013. -
Haha, busted. Well, it looks like we were right. Now the only question is late 2012 or early 2013...
-
Whats the best diablo-like game atm?
I was playing dungeon hunter 2 on iphone and rly liked it, lol
For mac and pc that is. -
You can play Torchlight, Sacred 2 and Sacred gold, Dungeon Siege Series... On console there is Champion of norad and Baldurs Gate Dark Alliance as well as Gauntlet Legends series but with less skills. Those are one i remember.
-
Torchlight is basically Diablo II gone steampunk. With a somewhat-improved interface. Before you accuse it of being a truly shameless Diablo ripoff, realize that the people who made it (not the company, but the actual people) were many of the same people who made Diablo I and II. I'd start with that.
-
Blizzard's so called "done when it's done" mentality, in reality, reeks of poor production management.
No games, regardless of potential quality, should take as long to deliver as theirs do. -
Torchlight was boring as hell compared to Diablo if you ask me. And I am a big fan of these games... The word repetitive isn`t nearly good enough to explain it. Yes I know that it is the way the genre is, but boy, this game push it waaaay far and lacks a lot of content

guys, I have been testing diablo 3 for about a week now and what I am seeing is the game is nowhere near deep enough compared to diablo 2 in terms of skill specialization... this is about the biggest let down I had so far, I am a big time diablo 2 player (lvl 82 paladin) and what I feel like is that every person of the same class is going to have the same char except for items... this game is not only item hunting, it is also coming up different builds! now what we have is every wizard can cast the same spell, every barbarian can do the same stuff... boring so far... I hope there is something else to it, I didn't try it for long, a week is nothing (especially when the semester is starting) but so far, I am a bit disappointed...
ALSO WHO THE HELL IS THINKING SCROLLS OF IDENTIFICATION AND TOWN PORTAL IS NOT FUN (AND NOT STRATEGY) I DON'T UNDERSTAND!!!!
-
I don't care about the lack of scrolls of identify and scrolls of town portal (that wasn't what made the game fun for me), but the lack of unique skill specialization is crazy talk. That's what defines not only Diablo but western RPGs in general.
I'm really, really starting to get concerned that Diablo is years away from showtime if they're still having these sorts of issues. Diablo without skill specialization is like Command & Conquer without resource gathering, and we all know how THAT turned out. -
-
-
I don't want to see them screw it up either, but I just can't get over that they're even thinking about these fundamental gameplay questions this late in the game. It makes me think that the delays are not refinement over refinement (a good reason to delay a game), but instead them going in one direction then another because they just don't know what they want the game to look like (not a good thing).
-
The only real PC-only game developer takes time to refine this game's engine before it comes out. Isn't this what everyone has wanted the entire time? A developer actually taking its time before rushing a product out. I'm convinced this game will be awesome once its released. Go blizzard.
-
i am not really sure what specialization you are talking about.
When i played barbarian in diablo 2 i pressed "leap" then "whirlwind" for the most part. Didnt know there was some "other build" -
Looks like they are changing more. Must be some kind of conflict going on since at the very last they decide to slice away stuff like this. I for one welcome the removal of companions though. I`m more of a lone wolf. Hate to drag people/creatures with me.

The problem I had with Diablo II was not whether everyone used the same build, but that an effective build essentially required that you play through a 20-hour game USING ONE OR TWO MOVES AGAIN AND AGAIN AND AGAIN AND AGAIN AND AGAIN. You build your entire character so that one attack works brilliantly, and then you do it again and again and again and again and again and again and again. Compare that to, say, Neverwinter Nights or Dragon Age: Origins, where even a highly-focused character has a dozen different abilities that he/she regularly uses, depending on the situation. I just don't see why it's fun.
