Lately ive been getting major lag while playing games. These include WoW, CounterStrike Source and Call of Duty World at War. Ill be playing for a while and then suddenly my FPS starts creeping down to around 15. I dont know what it is. Ive measured my temps while running these games and they are between 86 and 91 degrees. I dont know much about computers and if this is a high temp so could someone help out please.

    Thanks!

Edit: im measuring the temps right now. While playing WoW i hit 102 degrees.

sounds like overheating. update your GPU driver, clean out your vents, maybe invest in an external notebook cooler.

What system do you have and as a side question, playing on your lap?
Overheating for sure, reason is...you`re either having loads of dust in it , or playing on your lap and sufocating the fans.

Have you overclocked? I'd assume you arent since you said you arent experienced.

Like the other members have said, buy an external notebook cooler or just clean out your laptop because that temperature could fry your GPU easily.

Get yourself a notebook cooler. I used this passive notebook cooler and worked very well on my 1520. As a temporary notebook cooler, try raising the rubber feet on the back of the notebook by about 1/2-1 inch to improve airflow (e.g. coasters) but make sure you don't block any vents!

definetly try making your laptop hover above ur hard service by using some objects as coasters even cd cases will do

it decreases temps by more than you would think by having that extra room to push hot air away

Oh, you have the exact same notebook I have!

6 or 9 cell battery? (The 9 cell is designed to raise the back of the notebook for some passive cooling). If you have the 9 cell, you could do what I do and add a soda bottle cap in the front (right underneath the headphone jacks) to raise the front of the notebook a decent amount. It works so well, that I don't have to use the targus cooler anymore. :D

Also, get yourself the 179.28 drivers from Nvidia. As the m1530 only supports vista, here's the link for 32-bit or 64-bit. Make sure you have the latest BIOS for the m1530 as well, otherwise there is some issue with noisy fans.

Get Dell to come and replace it.
102 is too much, regular users report around 20C less than you.

Im not in power saver mode. Ill give this thing ago and lift my notebook of the table abit.

    I have a 6 cell battery btw.

I dunno if im talking rubbish here but i turned the heater of in my room because it was getting a bit warm and i dont seem to be getting lag spikes anymore. Could that be the reason or just conincidence?

I think the heatsink might need to be re-secured with re-application of thermal compound.

Although I am afraid that it might be that you got a defective 8600M... like so many others.

You might do good by sending it back to Dell while its still under warranty.

Interesting point. I think they may have forgotten to apply thermal paste when sending it to him. Even if overclocked, the m1530 shouldn't get that hot.

Thanks ahl ill give it a go and actually update my drivers XD

I think i may actually be right with the heating. I tried it again and put my room heater on and my FPS sunk as soon as the room heated up to a certain temperature. I switched it of and once the room went down to a normal temperature again my FPS shot back up....made me crack up :S

And sorry JAV1563 i dont remember you hosting a game for me, maybe someone had the same name as me? :p
