Are laptops capable of using 5.1 sound (w/ sub)?

    Is my SonyFE790?

I have a two speaker setup by Bose; and it's good, but I want something deeper and better for my games + music.

You might need an external 5.1 sound card like the Creative Audigy.

Where are you getting it for only $1600? The places I looked at were more than that.

No, the Creative card is not compatible with the PCI-E slot. You'l have to get a PCI-E to PCMCIA adapter, or you can wait until Creative releases the PCI-E version of the card.

even if their was an pci-e version of an 5.1 sound card, wouldn't you still only have the original laptop mic, and headphone socket which is only good for stereo.

as said previously your real only option is an Creative Audigy or similar usb external sound card.

    regards.
