    Laptop 8600GT vs. Desktop 7600GT?

    its worse than the 8600gt and i'm not sure about the 8400gs

    Desktop graphics cards are always better than their laptop counterparts.
    The only advantage of the laptop graphics cards are that they support dirext x 10, whereas your desktop gpu can only support up to direct x 9c.
    The 8400GS is a pretty weak card, I highly recommend spending a little more and getting the 8600GT. the 8600GT will be about 75% of the speed of your desktop based graphics card. This is only because the xps1530 uses ddr2 memory, and not ddr3 memory. If dell used a 8600GT ddr3 card, the performance would be about 90% that of the desktop card.

    The 8600Gt is a good card, and will game much better than the 8400GS.

    Actually, the 8600M-GT is the GDDR3 variant in the XPS 1530......it's DDR2 in all other Dells. The 8600M-GT is a beast when overclocked.....I run mine at 8600-GTS speeds in intensive gaming..

    When did 1530 switch to DDR2 from GDDR3? Mobile 7600 is about 40% more powerful than 8400m GS on 3DMark06. The 8600m GT is more powerful than mobile 760 and suspect more powerful than even the desktop card. But also on desktop cards made by many different companies and they clock them differently.

    The XPS's 8600GT is a DDR3 card. It's still weaker than my desktop's eVGA 7600GT though?

    Edit: looks like people beat me to do DDR3 thing. Still, I need to know how the XPS 8400GS and 8600GT stack up against my desktop's 7600GT.

    I missed the GT part. OK crushes 8400m GS even more like a bug! The mobile version 100%>8400m GS. Likely your card and XPS very close mobile version just below 8600m GT.

    I have a 7600GT in one of my desktops, and 8600M GT (DDR2) in my Vostro notebook. They are very, very close running DX9 stuff. Both cards overclock equally nice. When the 8600GT desktop card came out, benchmark tests showed that the 7600 would beat it in some games, and the 8600 would beat it in others. I would give the DDR3 version of the 8600 a slight advantage over the 7600, but not much. I would think the 7600 would easily beat the 8400 in most tests.

    But now the 8600GT got way better with the drivers. The 8600M GT should be similar to the Go 7800GT so a bit better than the 7600GT. It depends on game though, shader intensive ones,the 8600M will be better for sure.

    I just checked on google, and the 8600M GT DDR2 has similar 3dmark06 score than the 7600GT

    I'm pretty sure the 8600GT is far a much better than a desktop 7600GT - even early figures suggest that it was on par with a 7700. Now with with drivers and the 8600GT DDR3 it's far superior to the 7600GT not to mention dX10 support.

    Btw, Dell's XPS m1530's have always been shipped with DDR3 8600GT's. From what I can remember, it was only the first month of production where there was a little confusion of what they were but since, it's widely been known the GPU's use DDR3 and thats why the 1530 is so popular. I still wouldn't buy one though :p .

    i dont see how a Mobile 8600gt is "Far superior" to a desktop 7600gt, IMO the desktop 7600gt is 15% better than the mobile 8600gt, people have to know the fact that a new generation doesnt mean it will destroy everything. we are comparing MOBILE to DESKTOP here, which is obvious that the desktop will win this fight

    I'm no expert on drivers but most people here go to that website since it offers better drivers than the official nvidia ones.
    If you want the official Nvidia Drivers, then go to the Nvidia website. CLICKY.
