Hey, im new here and I was wondering if increasing my ram would increase graphics quality on an integrated graphics card. Here is the laptop im using.
Gateway
AMD Turion(tm) 64 X2 Moblile Technology TL-50 1.60ghz
1024 MB RAM (can be upgraded to 2048)
ATI Radeon Xpress 1150
Im running on Vista, and I know that has something to do with graphics quality and playability in games. Im not looking into any extremely high perfomance games, mostly just MMOs such as WoW and similar quality games. So im thinking of upgrading RAM and possibly downgrading to XP professional. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

I don't think it will help your integrated video card. All the extra RAM would do is make your multitasking or intense applications run much faster.

I see, well I assumed that if there was more RAM, there would be more memory for the graphics card to work with itself. I guess its still worth getting the extra ram though

Your RAM is not the limiting factor, the integrated video is. The RAM will help some, but not significantly.

switching to xp from vista will help though. maybe 10% or more?

Thanks for the input guys. I figured that the biggest factor in the performance was the graphics card. I assume ill probably be switching to XP fairly soon then

I would still recommend getting 2gb of ram if you're a multitasker like me. i recently upgraded from 1 to 2gb and the performance is noticeably faster when running many apps at once.

right now im using my dads pavilion 9000 with nvidia 6150 on windows vista it plays high def water at like 10fps (BBC's World documentary) while on linux it easyly goes for 40-50fps .
and thats for video.
Now i understand that you wont be playing games on linux (unless you play the opensource games) but There would be a seginificant preformance increase.
Now about the ram. According to my dad he changed the bios on this computer to give the videocard alot more memory but according to him he saw an improvment in Age of Empires 3. FYI this computer has only 1 gig of ram.
The ram will help a bit in that you can give more to the video card and still have enough for desktop apps but thiers a limit to how much preformance increase you can achive by that. (256 mb is probably the most you want to give to the gfx card any more will just be a waste.)
