Hopefully, this is an easy question. I am assessing new laptops and would like to be able to play video (Movies, Youtube, etc.) from my new Laptop on to my TV. Is it as simple as running a cable from the HDMI connector of the Laptop to the computer? Someone told me that HDMI from a computer may or may not include sound. Is that a possibility that I need to watch out for? Last, does the quality of the video card relate to the quality of video output on the HDMI port? I so, I'd like to get the max capability, so what specifications should I look for?
Thanks in advance!!

it's as simple as running an HDMI cable. for audio to be carried over the HDMI signal, sometimes that specific output needs to be set as the default audio device in the control panel--this is likely what that someone was referring to. however many laptops nowadays don't require you to do this as it's set automatically when an external display is connected and detected.
and yes, the quality of video output over HDMI is directly related to your video card. more than likely any-and-all setups you'll consider will support full high definition (i.e. 1920×1080 resolution, or 1080P in the context of HDTV), which at the current time is the best that's consumer ready and widely available.
