    hi

i have a new laptop, with a NVIDIA 8400. I am really astonished, because with a few programs, i have mesured 69ºC on both cores when playing Bioshock and Unreal Tournament 3!!

should i buy an exinctor? or call the fire brigade??

That really isn't that hot, especially considering you were playing Bioshock. I wouldn't worry about it; core 2 duos can withstand temperatures of 100c+.

69ºC is quite cool and most likely as per design. It looks as if you have got a good cooling system but it will tend to clog up with dust over time and become less effective. If you were reading 89ºC then it would be time to start getting worried. At somewhere around 100ºC the CPU will throttle itself.

No need to worry unless the computer itself is too hot to hold. That's the temperature inside the CPU. The ouside will be cooler.I can manage 69ºC with a ultra low voltage Core Solo CPU.

sorry to interrupt, but i have a question similar to the one you were discussing.

I get similar temps playing those games, but the fans dont seem to be really normal. Please watch this video from second half, and judge yourself:

    thank you

Really.... Does anyone have a chart with MAX CPU temps for different CPU models...

    95C is way too hot.

THE HOTTER YOUR SYSTEM THE LESS PERORMANCE YOU WILL HAVE. That is why it is necessary to keep your system as cool as possible. I had an alienware laptop that got up to 85C and caused slowdown in all my games/software. I ended up after fighting with the middle eastern tech to return the product. (he suggested i put the laptop on something high and have a high powered fan blowing up into the bottom of it WHILE only using the laptop for email and internet until they send me GLUE.... wow, some people are stupid)

50-60-lower 70's C is a good temp to follow according to alienware. when it gets into the upper 70s he said performance will be affected

95 not too hot for a laptop GPU. 100 is starting to be though. Cards are usuallly design to cool the GPU arround 80-90 while under load.

That's fine for a mobile cpu. You should only worry when it starts to go over 70 really towards 80.

Undervolt it to reduce temps. 69 is quite hot for a Core 2 Duo, however we´re speaking laptops here. But my desktop E6600 overclocked to 2.93GHz maxes out at 50 degrees on both cores, 69 is "HOT!" in the desktop world at least.

On my MBP I stabilize at around 82 degrees Celsius for the GPU and CPU while playing modern games that stress the GFX card.

It has gone as high as 94 degrees Celsius stable when playing Supreme Commander with dual screens.

The thermal design of laptop chips is completely different from desktop chips. A mobile Core 2 Duo is designed to run at full capacity up to 100C. I wouldn't be worried as long as it's in the 80s or lower under load, 69C is actually quite cool.

Yes sorry about that, thought they were manufacture equally. Usually the thermal pads notebook manufacturers use sucks. This is why it´s a better idea to put AS5 instead.

Those are fine temperatures - the ThinkPad T61, for example, can reach as high as 80C under constant full load! Even my old Inspiron 9300, a 17" beast of a machine, could warm its little Pentium M into the high 60s during gaming.

And you want to see hot GPU temperatures? Buy a G80! My god does my 8800GTS run hot - 70s or even 80s after long gaming sessions.
