Hey Guys:
Requesting some help. I have the Asus G2S and everyone knows their drivers blow, so I have upgraded them to the lv2go.com drivers, the whole 167.x series and now the 174.31 currently.
I just noticed that I cannot mess with screen brightness on either the 167.45 or these 174 ones; I forgot to check with the others when I was testing. I vaguely remember turning it down last night, but seeing that was so very long ago, I cannot confirm. Does anyone using drivers with modded infs notice this?
I am going to revert to factory drivers to double check, then install the 174, then 167 driver that I do not need a modded inf file to see if its the infs, or the whole fact upgrading drivers. I like the fact that the modded infs actively downclock to keep temps low and enable a lot of extra options. I get great game performance even with downclocks when I do not need all that power, and still manage a 4k 3dMark06 score. Thank you for your help.

I used the 174 drivers only temporarily.
But, at least on my MBP, my screen brightness decrease/increase (function f1 and f2) has worked with all of the drivers I have used.
Have you tried messing with brightness in any of the Nvidia control panels? Just don't set it too low, or else you'll have a black screen with no way to turn the backlight back on. -
I have tried that and the nvid panel does work. For the G2S, originally, when you hit the FN + F5/6 you get an osd pop-up saying brightness then up or down depending upon key to dim the screen.

Just installed stock drivers and still no pop-up, off to reinstall all the utilities to do with startup, splendid, buttons, etc. off Asus.

If that doesn't work, I don't know what will.
Essentially that is the Apple bootcamp utility in Windows for me.
Good luck. -
Gar, you know I hate to say it, but I would love a MBP right now...It seems other than getting better benchmarks, having an even better warranty, they cost a little too much for my low budget. But hey, when they have issues, everyone has an issue and it gets fixed, usually. Thank you for your help. I have asked Asus and I guess I needed to to a recovery reinstall anyways :/

if it doesnt even work with stock drivers then just reinstall the asus ATK drivers etc.
-
I am currently downloading the ATK drivers, so far I have reinstalled the stock VGA drivers as well as reinstall the ATK Hotkey Utility, still no beans. I also uninstalled all the recent programs, waiting on a reply from Asus.
Edit: Tried to find the Driver app, but could not discern which it was. I have posted a pic of what I get for Vista 32 Asus G2S
Edit 2: Well, did think I would be saying this, but thanks to Vista's restore program, it now works. I reinstalled basically every driver on my laptop until remembering to check the restore logs. Usually It is cleaned out with only 2 restores from when the issue occurred, but today it seems there were a bunch from way before. So I restored and updated, and now am using the 174.31 drivers without a hitch. Thank you guys for all your help and I hope this thread will come in handy for others who get this issues.Attached Files:
