Whenever i run Call of Duty 4 on my Gateway P-6860 my laptop shuts off after maybe 15 to 20 minutes of gameplay. This happens every time i play a game on my laptop. I really dont know what it is or how i can fix it. I was wondering if any of you guys could help me out? Thanks for any advice you can give me.

It sounds like it is overheating , either clean out the cooling system with air-duster or and get a cooling pad.

EDIT : OH yeah, run HWmonitor to check your temps.

The temps are uniformly high across the whole system.

If you have overclocked anything, stop doing so and reset back to stock clocks.

Get some compressed air and clean out your vents and fans.

If the above doesn't do anything, you may have to replace the thermal paste on your CPU and/or GPU.

I'm assuming that you have used this laptop for a while of course. If it is new or you just bought it, try to RMA it

The laptop is about a year old. Ill take the bottom panels off and blow them with compressed air. If that doesnt work, then ill send it in and see what Best buy can do for me because i bought the 3 year insurance plan with this.

Be cafeful when you use the air-dusters as liquid can come out, you should leave your notebook in a warm place for a couple of hours after using one to let any moisture evaporate.

Can anybody tell me if they have see moisture sensitive strips in notebooks like they have in cell phones, to see if they have been wet, and would the liquid from an air-duster cause your warranty to be invalid?

Not that I know of but the odds are that there are some pretty noticeable signs if there has been damage due to liquids.

Liquid tetrafluroethane, or compressed air, will evaporate too quickly for it to do any damage to the system, unless the OP has the machine on while he's dusting it out.

Campe, you really need to clean your system out on a regular basis, say once every two weeks or once a month. Not cleaning out the dust from your system is like me not giving my dog a bath for a year.

Many of us had this problem before and we know every way to solve it.

I for one used to have this problem and u should definitely clean out your vents with compressed air. Afterward clean out the fan under the cpu lid with some q tips and u will be good as new. And get a cooler as well if you want a nice and cool system. And it is also helps to have your room a bit cooler than usual. I keep mine at about 60C on purpose for the laptops.

just so you know i have the same laptop and the ideal temperature while gaming should be, i realized no matter how long you play the temperate would not go up once it reaches a limit, and of course the lower the better
according to your temp chart(room temp 20-25C)
    TZS0 55-60
    TZS1 65-70

    Core0 65-75
    Core1 65-75

    GPU Core 75-85

    HDD 48-55

i'm not so sure for the CPU temp since i replaced it with T8400 long ago, now it's around 50s to low 60s.
