    Hello guys!

Lately I have been having lots of freezes and crashes of my laptop. Here is the info I gathered :

    • Laptop is ASUS N61Jq with 720QM and HD5730.
    • No BSOD's
    • I OC'd the GPU a couple of weeks ago ( 3+ ), and it was stable ( mild OC of 60/60, from 650/800 to 710/860 )
    • HDD crash
    • Event Viewer reported a Kernel-Power ID 41 crash ( like all other times )
    • Could be a failing PSU?
    • No artifacting, or other GPU related problems
    • No overheating ( GPU 80ºC; CPU ~80ºC )
    • I have some weird interference when my volume is higher than 20. I get some "SSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS" and lots of annoying echo when there is sound going out ( videos, music, etc ).
    • Weird mouse stuttering/FPS stuttering in BC2.

I have no idea why my laptop is having these crashes, it's stable and BAM, crashes for no reason.

    Thanks for any help!

The "Sssssssss" you mention could be a capacitor issue, but since you have echo as well it can be the speaker itself.
Anyway i suspect the motherboard is the culprit, if youre under warranty better you ask them to replace it and fast.
Also those temps you posted are idle temps or load temps?
Also that error is imputable to a power issue indeed, specifically to the mainboard power regulator chip failing.

Hey KPZ :D How are you? Thanks for replying! :)

    What's a capacitor issue?

I have both : the ssssss and the echo all in once. Why do you think the motherboard's broken? What is the cause?

Did the GPU OC play a role here? I mean, I don't OC it for like 3 weeks now, and even without OC I crash. Even though it was a small OC from 650/800 to 710/860, and it was super stable.

Those temps are 80C under load.

    Thanks! :)

Dont know Asus notebooks that well, but i would say that you got a serious hardware issue. D:

as for overheating, have you tried cleaning the inside? i have had overheating problems in the past due to dust.

As I mentioned, I do not overheat at all, both GPU and CPU wise.

The hissing could be from an audio input like the mic or line-in. Try turning it down or mute the source.

If it still hisses, it could be normal for a noisy audio chip. You could consider getting an external audio interface.

For your crash, have you tried memtest86+ through a few passes? I would think it's the GPU OC but I have to assume you've tried it without the OC and it's still crashing (otherwise... don't OC as hard).

    memtest86? Alright, will try it.

And yes, I have been getting crashes without the OC ( last time I OC'd was ~3 weeks ago ).

And my OC was from 650/800 to 710/860 with temps never going over 81ºC, nothing too extreme or hard.

Yep, it was the mic! The hissing is gone! Thanks! :)

EDIT : I think memtest86 isn't needed since the crash is due to the PSU or motherboard ( kernel power crash ID 41 )

New symptom : Terrible mouse stuttering in BC2 and TERRIBLE FPS stuttering and random drops. Any ideas?
