hi guys, im new to the forums and i was wondering if you can help me choose a new laptop. I'm not really looking for anything huge (15.4inch and smaller)

My main concern is that it has to be able to run World of Warcraft w/o any problems. Can u guys give me some reccomendations?

Now, i was told that i will need at least 1gb in memory and a decent graphics card. also, does the hard drive speed come into play when it comes to games?

    thanks

    m3thanh,

You might want to list this in the Hardware forum. There is a FAQ that you can fill out for us to recommend something that will suit you.

I have been playing WoW on my eMachines M6805 flawlessly for the past year. It's running an AMD 64 3000, and ATI Radeon 9600 with of 64 mb ram, and 512 mb of system ram. All I had to do was download the latest Omega drivers for the Radeon. It runs great in windowed mode and graphics settings on medium, with firefox, AIM and yahoo running in the background (as well as Zonealarm and AVG and Miscrosoft Anti-Spyware in the tasktray also eating up resoursces).

I thought the hard drive speed would be an issue... I think I only have a 4800 rpm, while some M6800 users have 5200(?) rpm... I got a staggering increase in performance after I uninstalled the game, defragged, and reinstalled. I'm gong to install it onto my 7200rpm external next to see how that changes things.

It's 15.4" widescreen, and weighs in at a beastly 7.5 pounds... it's 14" wide and 1.6" thick when closed. You can still pick up M6800s on eBay or their Gateway equivalents (MX7500 series) for well under 1000.

Don't buy emachines on ebay!!! I had a bad experience with a used laptop and ended taking a big cut after trying to resell it. You might pay a little more, but always buy new. That warranty can be very important.
