Hi guys, I am planning to buy a new laptop and i am contemplating between HP's dv7t and Dell's xps16.

    The specs for dv7t is
    CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo Processor T9900 (3.06 GHz, 6 MB L2 Cache, 1066MHz FSB)
    RAM: 8GB DDR3 System Memory
GRAPHIC: 1GB ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4650

    spec for xps16 is
    CPU: Intel® Core™ i7-820QM Quad Core Processor @ 1.73GHz (3.06GHz Turbo Mode, 6MB Cache)
RAM: 6GB Shared Dual Channel DDR3 at 1333MHz
    GRAPHIC: TI Mobility RADEON® HD 4670 – 1GB

I wanna play games like GTA4, Crysis, Mirror's edge and Modern warfare. Do you guys think i will be able to play those games without any problem with the laptop?

And the last thing, if neither of them is a good choice, could you recommend me the ideal laptop for me with the price under $2300?

    Thank you very much!!!

GTA4 makes full use of 1 or more cores so i would be going for the dell everytime not to mention the fact the GFX card is better.

If you have 2300 dollars your willing to spend Id rather go alienware or a sager with at least the gtx260 the 4670 isnt bad but I do think that you'll see a advantage with the geforces instead.

If you go to the What Notebook should I buy, section, they will provide a lot of info on what notebook you could get with that money. In short, both of those laptop's should have no problem with GTA4, but you can get better for the money.

What the price of those two laptops?

The second one since it has a bit better Graphic card and it has a quad core processor which GTAIV recommends and its a very CPU demanding game

Btw you dont need all of that RAM its a over kill you only need like 3GB or 4GB

Well, yeah quad core is very benefficial when playing this game. However with the new patches that drastically improved performance since the original release, people are playing it on dual-core processors just fine, albeit higher clocked (2.4GHz+) are obviously recommended.

    comparing a 9600M GT to a GTX 260 it's a nonsense.

GTA4 - Did anybody mention yet that this game is really more cpu dependent than gpu? I dont think I saw that posted.

You want a quad core cpu if you want to play this game seriously, and for gpu one with a lot of memory helps since this game has strict vram requirements.

Id put money on it that this game would run better with a single GTX260 with a quad core than it would dual GTX280's with a dual core.

As for the two laptops on the first post, the 2nd one sounds better but still the gpu in both of them is not so great. Too bad you missed out on the Asus W90 its what I use and it was only $2300 it has

    6GB Ram
    Dual 4870 in crossfire
    Quad Core CPU
    Dual HDDs
    Bluray

Its the highest performing laptop for the money out there I think its only competing laptop is the Alienware M17X but it cost more.

Id poke around more if I was you and try to find a laptop with a 4850/4870 GTX260/GTX280 card(s) if you really want to game on a laptop.

here is an example of the kind of rig you should be looking at - http://1toppc.com/Merchant2/merchan...de=G51J-A1&Category_Code=AS15&Product_Count=6 or trade in a bit of cpu power for more hdd space, bigger screen, different looks and more ram - http://1toppc.com/Merchant2/merchan...e=G72Gx-A1&Category_Code=AS17&Product_Count=0

both well in your budget and way better than the 2 posted in the first post.

Id probably go with the first one, and i7 cpu for that kind of money is nice, but if the 2nd one is like my W90 I able to OC my 2ghz Q9000 all the way to 2.7ghz with no problems and I really like the larger screen the w90 has vs a 15" laptop.

In addition to ViciousXUSMC's advice, I'd like to add that you should get a notebook that is designed for gaming; that is, with a proper cooling system that can handle the high-performance components in it. Whether the XPS16 could handle those components under max load without suffering long-term damage is pretty dubious. Consider getting an Asus, Sager, or MSI notebook for such purposes.
