I have never had a laptop before and im looking at getting the np8662 with 260m gtx. Now i am an expert at desktops and currently own an 8800 gt on my desktop. So my question is what is the desktop equivalent to the laptop 260m gtx? That way I can get an accurate view as to how well the 260m is.

Dude, you're getting the most powerful GPU for notebooks currently on the market. I wouldn't even worry about comparing
.

I think it is somewhat equal to the desktop 9800m gt. See here

Laptop GPUs are nowhere near to desktop GPUs.....the number of RPUs and pipelines are always half in the notebook GPUs

My teachers always told me that statements including the words "always" and "never" are usually false.
While it's true that a similar named mobile card has lower performance than its desktop brother, they don't have "half the number of RPUs and pipelines". Actually the 4850 in my notebook is the same 4850 in a desktop, just clocked down from 625 to 500. Thus, it has about 80% of the performance of a desktop card. In fact, I think most of the current generation (4xxx) ati cards are like that. Now, NVidia is just inane with their names, but even then, half is almost never right. -
Yeah, it's about equal to a 9800GT, which is about equal to a 8800 GTX.
Nevertheless, the 260M GTX is the 3rd fastest laptop GPU on the market with the 280M GTX being first and the ATI HD 4870 being second.
And don't forget that with a Sager notebook, you can upgrade the GPU's. -
pure genius.
