Hi guys,
Im bit confused between the nVidia driver versions and the released dates please read the whole post before you reply![]()
On Laptop2video.com (home page) indicates that latest drivers for XP 32bit as 156.83 which has a release date of 2007-11-16.
On the same site, under download drivers you get a list of drivers, which are all 16x.xx drivers but almost all drivers with a released date older to 156.83 released date. These 16x.xx drivers are also listed under XP 32bit.
Now obviously, one would come the conclusion 16x.xx drivers are better that 15x.xx drivers but if you look at the released dates 156.83 seems to be the latest for XP 32bit.
I use 156.83 drivers released by DELL. Can some please explain this to me? Maybe Im missing something here
Thanks in advance.

I always go with the driver with the most recent release date. That said, I stick exclusively in the 16x.xx series. Right now that means I am using 169.09 drivers, although I have the option of updating to the 169.28 (I think) release.
I am not positive, but I think the 15x.xx drivers are more stable but less recent, regardless of release date.
Mobile Nvidia drivers are only released by laptop manufacturers. Nvidia does not support mobile GFX cards themselves. Because of that, in order for a mobile Nvidia user to get a newer driver revision, their laptop manufacturer must release a driver modified for use with their laptop.
The good guys over at laptopvideo2go.com found that by editing a few lines of information in the configuration files of Nvidia DESKTOP driver releases, all mobile GFX cards could make use of those drivers. Additionally, lv2g.com also makes available all recent releases of mobile drivers from various manufacturers for completeness.
So yeah, if you are into cutting edge, I'd go with 169.xx drivers. -

thanks stormeffect,
well, i'm just curious to find out this because 16x.xx drivers are the hot topic these days for every issue that comes up when playing games etc, ... but i don't believe 16x.xx driver would necessarily resolve every issues because individual game has it's best settings etc,. the more recent driver settings are optimized for latest games and may not work best with the older games etc,
anyway, just want to find out the difference between 15x.xx and 16x.xx, and find out whether i use the best driver as well.
thanks. -
if anyone knows the exact difference between 16x.xx and 15x.xx let me know... cheers !!
