I'm about to try out this driver here. I wanted to know if there's any special reason it's listed as "v174.93 VISTA 64bit | NVIDIA/ OEM" ? What's the "OEM" for ? Should I stay away from this driver ? Will it not work on my Sager NP5793 ?
Other than the driver version number, how is this driver any different from "v174.88 VISTA 64bit | NVIDIA" driver here ?
Again, what does "OEM" signify here ? Also, should I just stick with the 174.82 drivers from Clevo ?

OEM: Original Equipment Manufacturer, which basically means this latest driver iteration might suit quite a few notebook manufacturers with specific inf files instead of relying on the usual modded inf provided.

Yeah.... I know what OEM means! :p But I wanted to know among drivers listed on LV2G, what's the difference between NVIDIA and NVIDIA/OEM ? And will this work on my Sager ? I'm downloading it now....
So the modded inf won't work then ? Then what do I do ?

I havnt tried the new ones yet, I only know that 174.82 are gooood for the 8800m GTX. Ill only switch again if I encounter serious errors in any games.

They works great for me on a 8400M GS 256MB - gave me a Bump of 150 Point in 3DMARK and about 10 more FPS in NFS ProStreet !

I tried this driver but gave me an error after turning sli on (max res 640x480 and 4 Bit Colors)... I think it doesn't support SLI, at least not for me...

Can anyone with a Sager NP5793 with 8800M GTX confirm that this is fine and working (174.93) ? I'm just a little worried before I try myself....

Its not like your laptops gonna blow up.

Just tried them on my setup; 8600MGT, and they work just fine. Performance is also a bit better than 174.82.

I used the inf provided by lv2go, but original inf's are included. The NVCV.INF is the CLEVO/SAGER one.

Hmmm.... ofcourse :) Was just paranoid, that's all! :D I'll have it installed tomorrow.... The reason I was reluctant was because installation is not done the way it's meant to be done, ie. through the installer, but instead through the have disk method! I've done that before, but never for video drivers. I guess there shouldn't be any problems though. I'll install them tomorrow :D

I tried this driver on my M1530/8600mGT...performance was increased in team fortress 2 slightly and pretty significantly in r6v2. However, it tended to crash pretty often will playing rainbow6 compared to 174.74, and it also increased my temp while gaming by 5-6C.

Back to 174.74 for me, currently the best available for the M1530 I think.

Also wanted to know.... I replaced the inf with the modded inf. And I'm able to install directly through the setup program. Is this not advisable, over the have disk method ?

Either way should work fine. I'm not sure that there's any difference between the two as long as you remove you existing driver first. I usually just run the setup.exe

    I do have it...
I did not do the uninstall, and install procedures - I installed it over the existing Dell drivers.
Works fine - 3DMark dropped significantly from 169.x, but COD4/LOTR improved a lot - go figure.

    Hi.

I tried running the setup, it said it could not detect any compatible hardware.

Funny thing, vista said it had an update for my 8600GT, it installed 163.69

I think i am going to go back to 174.74

    Regards

    John.

I've been using the 169.xx drivers before I formatted and now (I am using the 174.xx series) I notice the very same thing he is saying... 3dmark score is down (from 49xx to 47xx)... but the performance has not been worse... perhaps even better (but that is maybe due to the clean re-install)

I will be performing Vista clean install this coming weekend since my laptop is out of the return period, I'll se how it behaves. But as I mentioned, before the SP1 install there were no drastic fluctuation in 3DMark score - SP1 shaved 300+ points off the score on 174.xx Dell drivers, and now with the latest I cannot go over 4000. In any event, the overall system performance has not suffered.

You know what , il'l uninstall the SP1 and tried without it , but for me no problem what so ever ...

Seem like the Dell doesn't like other driver except there's ! Stranger .. !

I had a 10~12 FPS increase in NFS PS , and about 8~10 FPS in Prince of Persia T2T

So am I supposed to extract it from there, and then rename it to nvac.ini (the default name) and replace with original, if I wanna use the Clevo one ?

    Good to hear, eleron! :D

Just extract it to the same location/folder as the nvac.inf file. Windows will figure out the rest when you run setup.
one of the jobs of the inf file is to "help" the installer by giving the hardware id and telling it what to install, so as long as there is the correct hardware id in one of the inf's it will find it.

Well I use the have disk method. For that you just copy and paste the nvcv.inf in the folder with the rest of the files, no need for renaming the inf or replacing the one thats already there.

Then when you go through have disk method and get to the point of selecting the infs, you will have two of them there one called nvcv.inf and the other default one, just select nvcv.inf.

Okay cool! So now if I use nvcv.inf for the normal installation (not Have Disk) then do I NOT need to replace the default nvac.inf with the modded inf on the site ?

Okay. I'll give it a try. So does that mean I should REMOVE the nvac.inf and only keep nvcv.inf ? Wouldn't setup be looking for the default nvac.inf ?

Ah I see! :) Cool, I'm just about to try it. :)
Sorry for the unending questions... but how is it different if I install with the modded inf and with the original Clevo inf ?
Also how if at all, is have disk method better than normal installation ? Also, if I use the have disk method, how do I uninstall the driver ? From device manager itself, right ? I can't goto uninstall programs in Control Panel.... ??
