So my brother is getting a new computer 15" or 17" work, he wants a laptop with an 8800gts, radeon 3870m, or 8800gtx for under 1500. What options are there other than the gateway? Thanks for the help.

Gateway P-6860FX. that's all.
-
there are non other than gateway at that price. unless im missing something
-
The Gateway 17" FX series is the only ones I know of. They have an 8800M GTS 320MB in them. All the other laptops with similar chips are $2000+, and all the other sub-$1500 laptops have 8600M GTs or worse.
-
this is what i figured. Its on sale for like 1099 again right now. Isnt there a nother cupon somewhere to bring it down to 1000? plz post if there is. thx
-
the 8800m GTS has 512mb of gddr3, not 320mb.
-
I don't know. But If I was buying again, I would probably get the FX and then throw a T8300 off of Ebay in there. The FX is one heck of a deal.

dell outlet has xps 1710(7950GTX) for around $1300
also XPS 1730(8700 SLI) for around $1400-1500
gateway is back to $1350
for price i would go with dell(full hd resolution) but read so many bad things about them.
wait about 2 weeks for 15% dell outlet coupon -
sorry looks like 1730 is cleaned out.
they had like 5 last night -
this laptop im thinking of purchasing is only 8600gts but if it helps

Not saying that just because I own one, as I have never had experience with SLi 8700m GT's. (I have with the 7950 GTX though) I am just going by what gaming benchmarks, along with GPU stat-charts have shown. -
Yeah what kgann said i'm looking for laptops of 8 series or 38xx series cards, plus 7950's and 8700gt's in sli will be beat by an 8800gts.

The Gateway is a steal. Like I've said before, I could only imagine the worst when it came out. I loved my Sony, and wanted no other.
Finally, my wife of all people, convinced me to just go buy it, and if we didn't like it, I would just eat the 15% restocking fee. I bought it, looked at the box once, and wasn't all that excited. It looked nice, but I was just wanting to get it home and bash all of it's flaws. Got it home, ate some dinner, watched a movie, and at about 1am, figured I would check it out. It was flawless. The craftsmanship was that, or better than my Sony. The attention to detail was purely shocking, and the over-all looks just screamed gaming machine. Turned it on, and was sold from there.
I went in expecting the worst, and came out joyed with the best. -

Another lappy to note would be the HP HDX notebook. It's huge though. ( 20.1" ) but they sport an 8800m GTS, and cost around $1500. Check it out. xD

ORLY? is that a fact or what? mind posting the proof for this? -
edit: Oh wait, there he is. -
yup, daddy's home XD , the GTS will only beat if the user is playing on anything higher than 1440x900 otherwise, both are equal in raw performance in most of the games.
-
He never claimed that it would out perform it. He said that the 8800 would outperform the single 7950 GTX.

-
dont know about local best buy but its $1350 at best buy online.(sux to be in sandbox)
-
Yeah, 7950 GTX's in SLi will outperform the 8800m GTS, only the 8800m GTS will outperform the 8700m GT's in SLi. (If SLi was what they promised years ago, the 8600m GT's would outperform it...)

Narsnail speaks da truf.

guys dont think i'm an 7950GTX fanboy, i have a gateway myself (well its for my bro but i own him..)
-
7950GTX fanboy? Hell, I'm more of a 7950GTX fanboy than you. That card still plays all games high/maxed, almost 3 years later!
-
HP's HDX right now is $1600 with a free upgrade to an 8800m gts. Its a 20.1 inch screen though
-
I'm also looking for gaming laptop below 1500. looks like gateway is the fastest. dont think i can carry around 20.1 inch laptop lol.
im going to wait till 15th and see how new 9600m performs.
Also to see if bestbuy will have another sale on 6860.(really dont want to pay $1350 when they just had sale for $1099) -
Joon82, but dont be too late, or they'll go out of stock.... again
Laptops under $1500 with 8800gts or higher
