Great video, thanks for posting this one.

It's too bad the next STALKER was cancelled, but it looks like this will be another interesting post apocalyptic game set in Russia.

Watching the video also made me kind of wonder what Fallout 4 will look like. Hopefully there will be some kind of announcement in December.

Quad GTX 980 or Radeon 9970 seems much more logical

What mobile cards would be comparable to the GTX 275 / AMD 5870 desktop cards?

It's weird that they put the gtx275/hd 5870 both because the hd 5870 is much faster than the gtx 275.

Looking at 3DMark scores of the GTX 275, you can remove 570M and 650M from the list. Everything else should work. :)

Yeah, 5870 is like 30% faster or something..

I'm far from being a hardcore gamer, much less a hardcore FPS player, but I did pick up Metro 2033 for $5 last week. It shocked me a bit as it brought my box (GTX570 on Z77/3770K @4.5) to its knees. At 1920x1200 everything on max, the average fps is in the mid 30's, but minimum has dipped to SINGLE DIGIT on the benchmark :(

This is some insane hardware requirements  I'd just started looking at video cards capable of running it at 60fps but there aren't that many LOL. Man I should have bought that 7950 from a forum member here when I had the chance..

Maybe this time around Metro Last Light will actually have better optimization than Metro 2033, so then I can run it on my 7970M :D Looks like with this game, I might actually have to OC the 7970M. Guess the reign of this card is stopped in its tracks with this game, since poster above me said his GTX 570 could barely run it, and 7970M is close to the 570...

Update drivers and OC, that's the only way to optimize performance.

Also, might wanna trade the 570 to a 670 soon.

The 7970M will probably be most efficient at 720P

    ;)

I've never played Metro2033 before, but if you are not happy with the frame rate at 1080p, before you reduce to non-native resolution, try reducing or disabling anti aliasing. In most games, that is usually the setting with the greatest frame rate cost. Also picked this one up during a $5 Steam sale but haven't had a chance to install yet.

As for Metro Last Light, hopefully it will implement some more recent alternatives to MSAA, such as FXAA or MLAA that don't reduce fps so much.

No no, I mean Last Light, the 7970M will happily play 2033 at max settings.

FXAA looks way worse than MSAA even though it gives an FPS boost

Furmark's doughnut looks better when I turn off FXAA, but that might just be me.

Already at the latest 301 driver. It's too far off from the magical 60fps, OC will not do much. I might not be a hardcore gamer, but I'm very picky about visual quality, and a smooth frame rate is always something I lust after.

Believe me, I've been tempted to grab a 670, but it still won't get me 60fps. My box is fully capable to support two 570 but I just don't like SLI, although it is the cheapest route to get me there. I'll wait until I can grab a used matchiing card as I have for ~$150.

The adaptive v-sync on the 670 sounds intriguing. Screen tearing is another thing I hate, although I'm not seeing much of that on Metro 2033 :(

MSAA has such a horrible frame rate cost. I love FXAA because it results in almost zero reduction in frame rate. If you compare FXAA vs. 2xMSAA or 4xMSAA personally I can't tell the difference. 8xAA yes, looks better but it slows down games way too much.

16xAF also has very very low impact on frame rate. It's only the MSAA that is problematic. Supposedly MLAA looks better than FXAA with also very low impact on frame rate, but I haven't played any games with MLAA yet.

If Metro Last Light has some alternative to MSAA, then I would anticipate a higher frame rate compared to Metro 2033.

Is there even any games that use MLAA now?

I was somewhat unfelt by the ending in 2033. Hopefully, they have something to make up for it with this one. I doubt my computer will be able to run this game in medium with 60 fps unless I change my graphics card.

Nah, Amazon just has that date down as a placeholder. It won't be out until later in spring 2013. It was delayed an extra month a little while back.

Yeah, I wish it were coming this year, but THQ has been having serious financial problems and had to delay a few games to add polish. South Park: The Stick of Truth got delayed to 2014, and Metro got delayed to March 2013. It won't be too long of a wait :)

I found that turning MSAA X4 down to AAA and disabling depth of field increased frame rates quite a bit with Metro, leaving all other settings at maximum.

I personally would change 2 metro games for just one SATALKER 2 game.
stalker was made so almost every one ukrainian and russian guy could play it but it is still very popular thanks to athmosphere. METRO even though was made by creators of 1st Stalker is not as good but is caching thanks to unbelievable requirements.
