    Hey guys,

My new laptop (gateway g-6841fx) replaced my old p4 desktop pc. So my laptop is permantely connect to my external Dell LCD.

So I want to know if I close my laptop screen for many hours if the heat can cause any issue while gaming ?

I dont want to let the laptop lcd open because of dust.

    Any advise ?

    Sorry for my english

Leaving your laptop lid open should cause no problems, considering there are slits either along the edges, or near the bottom of notebooks. If overheating occurs, try placing the notebook on a hard, flat surface, allowing the notebook to "breathe"

Having the laptop closed does trap the heat inside, but it's not too much of a concern. You could also just leave it open and cover your keyboard with a towel or something else to prevent dust from settling on it.

Many ppl flamed my OC thread because there I posted some pictures showing they way I use my laptop (with the lcd closed), saying I'd burn my screen, set fire to my bedroom, explode my notebook, among other "sweet" things...

Nevertheless, I've been leaving the lcd screen "half-opened" from then on...

Cause you never know... right?

I keep my laptop lid closed all the time, unless I'm not using my laptop at home. I've played games for hours and never experienced any problems. I just make sure to keep the area by the vents free of clutter.

I just enjoy dual monitors and leave mine open.

Dual view using my G1S's 15.4" lid and my 26" full hd LCD screen is pretty odd... So I'd rather keep using only the larger one as the defalut monitor (at least when I'm at home)...

Feel the top surface of your laptop when it is opened. Is it hot/warm or cold?

Its not like the LCD screen is directly touching the heat source. There at least a few mm gap which could trap and create warm air. Warm air isnt enough to damage an LCD screen but in the very long term its possible it can make negligible wear

Had an Acer with severely overheated when I left the lid closed. Of course.. yes.. it is an Acer.. My advice, at the very least monitor your temps.

    Hi.

I thought about using an external screen and keyboard.

But i would have to open the laptop, evey time i want to switch it off and on.

    So i did not bother.

    regards

    John.

    It depends on the laptop.

I have a docking station so that has an external power button.

Quite a bit of heat radiates from the keyboard and palmrest area. Having the lid closed traps that heat.

Mine does this too. I solved the problem by just putting it in Standby so I just have to click the mouse button to turn it on. And if it shows signs of slowdown I just reboot.

I have done that with two older laptops, a P4 3.0GHz laptop and a Toshiba Portege with a docking port. It worked very well, I never noticed heat issues. It might be an idea to invest in a notebook cooler for gaming.
