Left 4 Dead HALF PRICE - Steam weekend deal *EXPIRED*

This weekend L4D will have a massive discount on Steam of 50%, in honour of Friday the 13th.


Anyone who does not have this game, I seriously recommend it. Especially with the free DLC that is coming out soon.


Too bad I already had this game since it was released, so no discount for me.

 

Yeah! I just bought it. I was just checking to the steam store this morning to see if left4dead was on sale then holy crap its 50% off, and I bought it immediately lol.

Yes, you can buy it without downloading it immediately, you can download it whenever you want.

 

Buying it just adds it to your My Games list. You still have to download / install it.

Here are some tips for those who are new to the game:


1) Teamwork is absolutely essential, never wander off on your own

2) ALWAYS Stick together (Same as first point)

3) Play campaign mode first before you get into Versus mode

4) The infected play very differently from the survivors

5) Both survivors and infected will benefit from good teamwork

6) Be afraid of the Tank!

I don't think I can ever get a game from a Steam Weekend sale again, even if it is an awesome 50% off.
(Actually, right now I CANT get any games from steam since none of the payment methods are working for me.)

It's about 5gb in total, very reasonable. The engine is also very well optimised so anyone with a nvidia 7400 and above should be able to play it fine at 1280x720 resolution. (The latest patch gives a performance hit though, so you might have to turn down your shaders till they sort it out).


All in all, the best game that I have played recently. The replay value is absolutely staggering because the AI director randomises everything.


Valve quality shines through once again.

you don't have to download it right away. you do it when you wany. if you just buy it it'll leave the icon in games and then it will ask you to install it and when you choose yes it will download it and then install it

 

How would the game run on my laptop (specs in sig)? I run TF2 pretty much maxed out with 1680x1050, should I see same performance in L4D?

 

At 1280x800 it should run smooth up to high details. Just turn off AA and AAF and you'll be fine. It's runs on an improved version of the source engine, which scales very well.

See above. Just note that Left 4 Dead, though it has the same "requirements" as TF2 (and HL2), it IS a bit more resource intensive. That said, the difference for you will likely be negligible.

I wasn't all that excited when this game came out, but now that it's $25... hmm....

These weekend deals are very bad for the wallet. I'm actually glad I didn't have much extra cash last weekend from moving so I didn't waste $20 on the Ghost Recon package, haha.

Unfortunately I doubt that... at least if COD4 is any precursor for sales prices of WaW. COD4 is still $50 freakin dollars at all digital download sites.

What kind of games are you into though?


L4D is not really a "horror game" at ALL, sure there are zombies but nothing frightening like Dead Space or Fear. They hardly even look like zombies.


It's extremely team-orientated, it's basically 4 humans against a billion zombies, and the "special infected". You've gotta stick together in order to survive. You can play as either survivor or infected.


Four humans vs. a billion infected = Total awesomeness.

 

I mostly play FPS games and sometimes RPGs too. Will I like it?

I was in the same boat. Like the next guy I'm all for zombies but I wasn't about to jump all over this. I played the demo and while I thought it was 'cool', I didn't see the replay value in it.

Shortly after Christmas I decided to give in and try it. One of my best recent purchases without-a-doubt. The multiplayer is so engaging;there is no game like it. Valve really hit the ball out of the park with this one.

The content is lacking right now, but more is on the way. And of course you'll have to deal with more azzhattery than usual in this game, but once you build up a friends list you're good to go.

L4D is definately the best game purchase I have made in the past year, the multiplayer dynamics are just unbelievable.

 

I always was interested, just not interested at $49, $45, or even the $39 it was selling for.

$25 is about right for what I wanted to pay for it so it works out well, especially after recently picking up a headset.

Fantastic deal!!! I haven't had much time to play in the past week, but I probably have ~200-250 hours invested into this game since release. If you don't buy this game for $25, you can no longer call yourself a gamer.

 

Just bought it, hell of a deal really. Now i need to get people on my cod4 and css clans to buy it so ill have someone to play with.

humans were pwning us. all 3 other zombies rage quiet out.

new round started when i was zombie.

I had that problem when I wanted to purchase a game off Steam too. All my credit cards used to get declined for no reason. What I did is, created a new account and gift it to my original account. Try it. It worked for me twice.

It's gonna run smoothly at Medium/High settings.

been playing a bit tonight. FPS was usually around 45-55, but had a range of 30-100. Im playing at 1280x800, everything on high except shaders (on med) no AA, Trilinear Filtering (what does this do and will bilinear increase fps?). Does all this seem normal?

i played it for 2hrs and it seems like fun game

but my rig took a beating on high settings, kept on freezing every minute or two, so I had to lower the settings to med and no AA at 1440x900

 

Multicore rendering has caused problems for some systems and is likely the culprit of your freezing. Try shutting it off and going back to your old settings.

 

Do you think maybe someone could like buy the game for me and send it to me as a gift, and i'll pay them back? Its just that im in australia and i got my bank account with my paypal account and it takes a whole week to transfer funds to it, so it'll be too late to get the discount.
