Is there or will there be Left 4 Dead offline co-op for computer?
Meaning on one computer instead of two over a lan.

I haven't play it yet, but when I read some reviews about it, split-screen mode was mentioned to be available...so I guess the answer to your question is yes, it should be possible. Not sure though.

Edit: Did a little research and apparently the split-screen is available only if you have XBOX 360 controller...

It would not be that bad.
I've done split screen xbox on a 13 inch tv and it was playable. Even with 3 players even though it was confusing at times.

I'll just use my friend's Projector. It should work. 80 inch screen ftw.

I have set up a testserver but I had no chance to test it.
First of all you'll need a console ingame. If you cannot access it right from the beginning open your left4dead config.cfg and search "bind "`" "toggleconsole"". Change this assignment to e.g "F11".
Start the game, open your console and type:
    sv_lan 1
    net_start
    sv_allow_lobby_connect_only 0
    z_difficulty (Easy, Normal, Hard, Impossible)
    map (MAPNAME)

    Clients need to connect via
    connect (YOUR IP)

If you have no WAN connection to connect to STEAM you'll need something like tinylauncher, but I haven't tested things like that. I'm not gonna help you with this one either, since people somehow feel it's illegal to use this kind of no steam hack.
*EDIT*: It may work with offline mode!

Because my friend has a crappy computer and can't run it, but he does have a projector so it would make it big. And maybe I'm on a trip where there is not a lan or another computer to play it on.
