So, because my Dad can get me insane discounts on Lenovo products (around $600 in some cases) I am probably going to get some sort of ThinkPad for university next year. Now, this won't only be used for work. Because my desktop is a crappy old Pavilion, which even lacks an AGP slot, I've decided that this laptop might be used somewhat as a gaming platform.

Now, I'm not really that much of a PC gamer. The newest game I won for PC is Halo. That being said, I want to get Valve's "The Orange Box" after playing Portal and TFT at my freind's house. Now, I'm not big on graphics. If I have to run these games 600*400, so be it. As long as they play, I'm happy.

Now, as far as I can tell, these are the graphics cards that are offered by Lenovo on their products.
    - NVIDIA Quadro NVS 140M 128MB
    - Intel GMA X3100 GM965
    - AMD M82XT Hybrid 256MB

Are any of these up to the task or should I just cut my losses and get, say, a Dell Studio or something?

I have no comment on the video cards, but I have a question, can your dad get any discount on W700?

The M82XT is a AMD 3470, and the review for the T400 will be out within the next couple weeks. The fact it uses GDDR3 memory means its a pretty good chip. sp

I'd recommend a T500, or if you can afford it, a W500. Those should be pretty well suited to run the Orange Box quite well (and well above 800x600).

He can get me a discount on prety much any Lenovo product.

Thanks for your help. And I don't think that IBM would be happy giving out employee promo codes online, so no. Sorry.

The NVS140M will handle Orange Box well (8400M GS equiv.), at high or close to high settings. The x3100 might get respectable framerates on the lowest of the low, it's not meant to be a gaming card. Not sure about the last card.

I also forgot to ask this beforehand, but is the Nvidia card in question one of that kind that likes to overheat or break or whatever?
