Okay guys, don't be shy, please tell me if this is a good laptop now. Is the i7-740QM(1.73GHz) processor too expensive at $899?

It's a decent notebook. There's a known 'issue' with display that you'd probably only notice if someone pointed it out to you. If you have a Fry's around you, check out their ads from time to time as they usually have this model often goes on sale for $850ish. I have a similarly configured notebook (albeit slightly slower) and can run most of my games just fine at medium-to-low settings. You shouldn't have any issues running them on that Y560. (GTA4, NFS: HP, SC2, Oblivion, LFD1&2, Half Life, Arkham Asylum, etc)

That's really good for the price in my opinion :)

I own the same except it's an asus and has a 720, and it is a true bang for the buck ;) Runs anything greatly. Metro 2033 with tesselation on Normal
settings @ 1920x1080 gets around 30 FPS. And on high gets around 20-25

Not a bad deal at all. Considering even with the latest coupon code (NEWYEARS) at Lenovo.com that similar build costs $1061.

My only qualm with it is the 1366x768 display, but that seems to be the norm these days unless you're ready to pay a super premium.

I don't get why so many people dislike 1366x768 resolution. I had that res for my G50vt-X5 and I found it very good.

For 15" and up, it's a rather small resolution. If you do any amount of desktop work, multiple windows, multitasking between apps, it's atrocious. If your primary use is gaming, for a laptop 1366x768 is a good resolution since your video card will never have to worry about pushing 1080p video unless you connect to an external monitor.

look at acer timeline X 4820TG.. way better deal IMO although it has dual core i5.. i don't like the lenovo's looks and wouldn't trust its cooling system.

That's what I always thought. I bought a 1440x900 monitor for my desktop since I didn't think that the sacrifice in the performance for 1080p is worth it :p

I got one from Lenovo Outlet for around $700. I love it.
