So I got a new Y570 today, technically a downgrade from my G73jh, but it's also smaller and lighter, without losing a ton of performance, so it was really a win for me.

But as soon as I start to game on it, or even use the GPU, I'm having all sorts of issues, for example, every now and then, most often when I make a new tab in Google Chrome, it will hang, the screen will go black for a split second, and then it will come back up, saying 'Display Driver stopped responding and has recovered.'

I can also have the 555M set to be used in a certain game and it is just ignored, for example, it will only let me use the HD3000 in Banished, meaning ty performance.

It also gets really warm and the fan goes crazy even when I'm not gaming too much..got to the point where it got to 85 celcius and it WOULD NOT cool down and I had to shut it down and let it cool off.

    I have:

    1. Stock clocks for this particular 555M set in Afterburner
    2. The latest Nvidia drivers (which are, as of right now, 337.88)
    3. Set the fan (with the cresent-marked button at the top right above the keyboard), to any setting, it makes no difference in terms of the graphical failures
    4. Taken the bottom panel totally off to let it vent better.
    5. Obviously made sure that the physical switch on the Y570 is set to have the 555M enabled, lighting up the little LED square next to the switch.
    6. A fully functional copy of Windows 7 x64 Home Premium.

It's really frustrating because some things pick up the 555M (i.e Afterburner, Nvidia drivers, Minecraft after some work) but other things ignore it (CCleaner, Banished) just seem to think it's not there. I'm really not sure what I should do at this point. :/ it's even MORE frustrating to see that so many people have the same problem as me, there's just not a clear solution.

(it should be mentioned that minecraft now works with the 555M just fine after installing the x64 version of java.)

Driver rollbacks, fresh windows installs..I'm pretty much willing to try anything to get this damn thing working. Quite frustrating as the laptop overall is quite nice.

Applications not working with optimus are only fixable if developers fix their programs, no amount of drivers will fix it.
