Basically it's detailed out here in this article from IGN: http://www.ign.com/articles/2015/02...true&utm_campaign=fbposts&utm_source=facebook

Apparently, any notebook (for who knows how long) you purchased from Lenovo with Windows pre-installed has had spyware in it which allowed them (and allows middleman attackers) access to basically any information you send on the net, even through secure connections. Lenovo has since disabled their servers, but the software is still active unless you remove it. This is probably best posted in the Lenovo forums, but half the Lenovo owners here probably don't even go on that forum so XD

Which is why the first thing I do on any OEM system is a clean install of Windows.

Exactly, no telling the security vulnerabilities we still don't know about in all the adware and crap the other OEMs are installing.

And use my own SSD. Heard its not software but firmware, so clean install on the HDD wouldn't matter. Maybe I was told.differently.

It's software. Delete-able by windows defender/Microsoft Security Essentials, and on pre-installed notebooks. Since it's a lenovo, they're ALL pre-installed OSes.

There was another debacle the year before the major spy agencies banned use of Lenovo over suspected firmware. CIA. MI6 and the like. The Chinese are coming to get us! We hate the Chinese, but we use all their electronics, oh no, we're screwed!!! NSA/CIA are trying to revive McCarthyism again. Soon all Chinese electronics will have to be in a detention camp before they are evaluated and allowed to enter. Will do the same for our laptops. All Clevo will have to go through an NSA camp rather than customs. And NSA won't be nice, we'll have machines that have screws missing, dented lids and panels and possible not working, but don't worry, NSA will not take any responsibility for damages during inspections.
