Like L4D? Got UT3?

Try out this amazing mod! Its called the Haunted and you have 4 player coop and 8 player vs like l4d but this has 20 weapons! The game is very polished with 2.0 now and I am having so much fun with it!

wow, UT3 Engine > HL2 Engine in a lot of ways but that mod is good enough to be a full blow expansion pack. Even has a BF like commander position.

 

Seriously guys this game rocks.

Also if you have UT3 retails you can register it on Steam and just DL it using steam which is awesome and convenient.

brunoroc: just grab it on steam I think its only 20 bucks and you need the retail game to play the multi player.

 

UT3 is pretty much the definition of "a game that rocks".

Just did that and it's really awesome! I didn't expect it to work so nicely. ^^

The funny thing is that I play a lot of UT3.... even though I have a retail L4D unopened for months... afraid to get into it (like I did when the demo was out).

Maybe this mod can be my middle-ground.

 

We should get together a 4 player games soon guys. The online doesn't have much people playing. My steam is "masterofthetides" add me up and lets play! Also my UT3 friends is "Tides".

 

Wow, downloading... Sure looks fun . I read on the comment that people are experiencing problem with putting this mod onto Steam's UT3. Anyone here is having the problem? Or it works flawlessly?

yes it does. It's pretty fun online, and works really well. Visuals are great, looks as good as UT3, or Gears of war.

I have the black edition on steam as well, it goes right here for me,
C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\unreal tournament 3

and you start the mod from that folder, or you can create a short cut and place it on the desktop or startmenu if you want. There aren't really any servers for it, the ones that are there are not dedicated, but it's never really a problem since I just run my own when I play it and people usually join quite quickly.

If you want to try it out with me on my server add me on steam or Xfire, unknown555525 on either.

One last thing, this game is nothing like l4d, not in the least, but that doesn't mean it isn't fun, it's just a completely different play style. I think of it sort of like Painkiller, where there's demons constantly spawning everywhere and attacking you from all angles, and the object is to just survive and outlast your other team mates, or not get taken down within the time limit by the demon team.

 

Well i was going to play today, but after i extract to the correct location and then i click on the shortcut, it just goes into "not responding". Any ideas?

the developers didnt do a great job packing it up to make it as user friendly as possible.

they should have made an installer, or at the very least, made batch (.BAT) files to link to the game with parameters.

 

Yeah the installation is by far the worst part of the mod, haha.

 

This looks sick; I must find a way to pry myself away from Mass Effect first though.

And it's good to see UT3 getting some attention because seriously . . . it is not played much. I was at a LAN party last week with over 150 people and there was a UT3 tournament - they couldn't even get half as many teams as was necessary for the tournament, that's how few people were enthusiastic about playing it. It failed miserably.

Hey...so I dled the file 2.0 and 2.01

Where do I put them? I have ut3 on external hd. I was thinking about putting it in my games/ut3, but im running w7.

I just want to know exactly what to do with it because Ive messed with ut3 so much and it gets pretty frustrating at times.

I admit for a HUGE UT2004 fan I really never did play UT3 much at all, even after getting the collectors edition

I meant to go see how the servers have picked up now that its merged into steam, but still have not gone to play it.

the specified pathway does not exist

i just installed ut3 black from steam

 

if you read the README you will see that they told you to re-do the shortcuts to the location of where your UT3.exe is located.

Or just make new shortcuts with the proper parameters.

 

I figured it out...

cool mod, i only played against bots not online

having trouble connecting to servers

 

It took about an hour for me to figure it out with no internet last night lol.

I was sitting there like...ok I extracted it in the my games/ut3 file, but then it made another file with the name of the original.

So I copied all the stuff in that folder and brought it back to the my games/ut3 folder. Now it had the hauntedgame folder next to the utgame folder.

Next I extracted the patch and put it inside the Hauntedgame folder.

Then I changed the name of the shortcut to the extension to the ut3.exe

And blamo! It worked haha.

So do something like that and you wont have any problems. It is a nice game for a FRIKIN MOD!! This is like the nicest mod ive ever played.

Is there a way to play with computerz? Like on co op?

 

Even better now with the 2.01 patch. Fixed a lot of little things that were keeping it down.

 

I figured I installed the patch correctly because I have v2.1 UT3 and version 2.0 of hauntedgame does support only v2.0 UT3?

MrButterBiscuits: thats the old 1.0 version of haunted which is MUCH different and not nearly as good as the 2.01 version.

I have a micro stuttering problem with the game. The first time I installed the mod it gave me the micro stutter problem and I think I reinstalled my physx drivers and fixed it, but I cannot remember. Now that I updated to the 2.01 patch I have the mirco stuttering problem again. I am dling the 185.85 drivers to see if it fixes something.

EDIT: Just figured out that when you run Digsby in the background and play UT3 it creates micro stuttering! Got the 185.85 on and seems to be working well however!

agreed viscious agreed... do you have on PC? I have it on 360 becuase they had told me the SDK wasn't being released for it on PC... is that true?

 

Not sure but I was looking at a lot of skins and stuff earlier, so even without the SDK people are doing cool stuff with the game.

Is it just me or are there never any multi player server for the haunted? I've yet to see a single one! Also with 2.01 I never get any health stone spawns... anyone else have this issue?

ViciousXUSMC: You commented on the other page you have the "actual Left 4 Dead game" what are you trying to say? This game is completely different than Left 4 Dead and is not trying to be an L4D ripoff. I do believe 1.0 was out before L4D was. Also the game mechanics are much *MUCH* different and it has WAY more guns. I love L4D and I love this game and I wouldn't say they are very similar in experiences so I suggest you try this game!

 

I never compared the two directly, I stated its hard for me to want to go play this mod when I have Left 4 Dead is all. Thats the game that has my attention right now.
