Any thoughts? The new XPS is rumoured to have an Nvidia 8400 GS and the Thinkpad checks in with the Nvidia 570 business/workstation tailored card, supposedly based off either the 8400 or 8600 architecture. These two models are looking like the most likely suspects for my next laptop purchase in July unless Compal or Asus bring new 13-14 inch models to market quicker than anticipated.

well the 140m in the t61 normal is supposed to be based off a 8400 series card, so the 570 is prob 8600 based. the 570 though, is a business card, maybe with proper drivers it will outperform the 8400 gs, also keep in mind the 8400 is 64 bit... I'm think the 570 with dif drivers will outperform the 6400 gs

I'll have to agree with spookoman. I think that it is very likely that the T61p will beat the Xps 1330 in gaming (same resolution/settings). The 570M is most liekly based of the 8600, as the "p" series have had cards based on the "middle" graphics card. If you take the same architecture and then do 128bit vs. 64bit the 128bit will almost certainly win, even with poor drivers.

You might however also consider screen resolution as the "p" usually have large resolutions and having a graphics card which is more powerful isn't going to help you if the screen resolution is also greater. (Taking into account that you want to play "native resolution" as this produces far superior image quality)

i.e. the nVIDIA Quadro FX 570M graphics card said to be in the Thinkpad T61p (said to be based on some 8600M card) will most likely not play many newer games at WSXGA (or the rumored WUXGA).
