I think any game currently out would be playable on an 8600GT...
-
Call of Duty 2 for the Mac. The game is just too buggy...
there are no games currently that the 8600M GT cant run atleast in lower settings. -
usapatriot Notebook Nobel Laureate
Now whether the operating system or the game has compatibility issues, well thats up to the developers...but any game currently out should be playable on an 8600GT.
-
Will Halo 3 work on max settings ? I know its not out yet. but what you think ?
PS: Then lets list games that are set only to max sttings and they are deleys when you play them with this card ! -
hello guys. I was trying to play Collin Mcrae The Dirt but it the cars are uncontrolable even on the low settings. What should I do coz I love that game?
-
Uncontrollable? As in you couldn't drive because of ingame stuttering?
-

As for where to start try upgrading your graphics driver.
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=64910
Edit* What FPS are you getting, is the gameplay smooth or stuttering?
If you having problems controlling the cars in game that is not the fault of the graphics card or the game video settings. -
what about (max settings):
Company Of Heroes Dx10
Unreal Tournament 3
Command & Conquer 3
SPARTA
Supreme Commander
Bioshock: Steel Tin
Battlefield 2142 -
usapatriot Notebook Nobel Laureate
Some of those games aren't even out how are we supposed to know?
I can tell you BF2142 will run maxed out. -
-
usapatriot Notebook Nobel Laureate
Make sure you patch your games with the latest patch.
Also some games aren't compatible with Vista yet or workarounds must be used to make them work. -
-
-
I'm not quite sure I understand the 'max settings' game list - is that a list of games that don't play so well if you max the settings, or a list of games that play great if you max the settings?
Having played CNC3 through in the GDI campaign, there was one mission only that ran really slowly for me on max settings - where there are a TON of alien air units on screen as well as loads of civvies and some of your troops. In all other parts of that game I have seen so far at max settings I have seen no slowdown. -
-
But if Trackmania works with Vista 64 then it must work with 32... as mentioned before, try patching the game with the latest patch. -
Halo 2 works but not perfect
In windows vista the recommended rating is 5.0
About the rating (they are in arabic I dont know why):
recommended = 5.0
Required = 3.0
Mine is 4.7 and its not fully playable at highest
still i think the problem is from the game, and that what ive read in gamespot review
Something with it being a bad port from the Xbox 1 version
it should suppot the DX10, and given its last gen graphics i am sure the problem is from the game
PLUS, Half life 2 has way better graphics and I still can play it at highest resolution with all options ON+Doom 3
Also you wont be able to play the following AT HIGHEST but you can play them at lower quality without problems:
DIRT-Impossible to play at highest it can go in game but with 1-2 FPS
Oblivion-Can be played at quality very near to highest -
When I install a game and it appears in the Games Explorer, its recommended and required system ratings are absent. I only have ratings from the games preloaded into Vista... How do you find out the recommended and required ratings for third-party games?
-
Isn't it only the "Games for Windows" games that will have Vista rating requirements? Vista just shouldn't get any information on games not made specifically with this rating system in mind. So far I have seen these recommended requirements only for Halo 2, Civilization IV Beyond the Sword and maybe Command and Conquer 3, not for F.E.A.R, Far Cry, Doom 3 or Max Payne 2. -

why does this thread exist without listing resolutions you used?
OMGWTFBBQ I cannot play oblivion at 1920X1200, this card sucks! yeah....right -
I have an Asus G1S: 8600GT DDR3 512MB, 3GB of RAM and Halo 2, DiRT, Lost Planet, and Oblivion all play perfectly at high settings.
I think that the problem with DiRT is that it is sensitive with the controls. But I have a xbox 360 controller so it cures the problem. I have never played the game with the keyboard. -
Dirt is a realistic driving game, so I would guess that's why it's driving so erraticaly. Try reducing the sensitivity/use a steering wheel.
@Ahmad - Another Just Cause fan -
I have a great idea, why don't you all just go buy a Xbox 360, that way you can play all the above games without any problems???
Y'all just don't get it do ya? -
Ah, but my 360 DOES have issues.
-
masterchef341 The guy from The Notebook
halo 3 is not coming out for the pc lol. just for reference...
-
Frankly, the 8600 is a solid GPU... (yes even the GDDR2 model) its just not enthusiast level (128-bit memory access instead of 256-bit)
It should play anything you want to play, you will just need to trim the eye candy a bit.
DX10 titles are quite simply not working well right now as drivers and Vista is still a little wet behind the ears.
When DX10 gets some steam going its efficiency should help the mid-grade cards quite a bit...
I felt bad about my 10fps performance in the Juarez test until my buddy with twin 8800s in SLI mode on his desktop couldn't stay above 30fps.
"Barely playable" in a near top-of-the-line SLI config?
that pretty much guarantees the game and drivers need some work. -
I play Command and Conquer 3 at 1440x900 resolution, Ultra High settings, and 1x AA....
-
But seriously, why would you come to a PC gaming forum full of people discussing their new computers and tell people to go spend more money on a console? Bad troll! Back under the bridge for you!
As for the topic at hand, there really are no games that won't run at all on the 8600M GT - some combination of setting should provide playable framerates in any game, and remember the drivers are still young. -
The Forerunner Notebook Virtuoso
Yeah the drivers are still infants.
Lol you do realize that this is called notebookreview.com? Oh wait you tell me to get a 360 without any pros and cons for either the pc or 360 and I should listen to you? You've got me sold. (Throws computer in the trash) 360 Here I come! -
lets see, the following are unplayable on my desktop 8600GT(600 core, 800 memory) at 1280*1024 resolution
all current DX10 games at max or medium settings
Lost Planet
Call of Juarez
Company of Heroes
at DX9
-Stalker at any setting with dynamic or object dynamic lighting turned on
- Lost Planet with HDR turned to high. -
Please leave. Many of us grew up in a time when PC games weren't ports of console games and vice versa. I'll be gaming on a PC for the rest of my life. -
How the hell do you play RTS's on a console?
And until the console comes up with a realistic shooting device, I will
consider the console only suitable for Sports games. (Fight Night R3 is amazing)
AND XBox 360 made a HUGE mistake by NOT making their DVD HD compatible.
I just don't seet the point of spending 350+ for Fight Night R3, Madden, and Racing games. Now if it was a HD DVD player TOO... -
Consoles have their pros and cons. Immediate pros of consoles are that they are made to game and you can get them at cheaper price than a gaming computer if you just want to game.
Also, I don't know about Xbox (besides halo 3)....about it's exclusives....but PS3 has many exclusive titles coming towards the end of this year and in 2008. These games won't be coming out on PC AND as you added yourself.....if they are also on PC...they will be crappy ports. -
How do you measure the FPS in a game. Is there any software that you can use and it gives you all the ststistics while you play ? and so that you can review it later and compare ?
-
So basically what everybody is saying is that
the 8600M GT is a strong solid card thats capable
of running every game on the market today smoothly
at some kind of setting. -
masterchef341 The guy from The Notebook
indeed. so that games would be distributed with it.
that way, gta4 wouldn't have to be on 2 disks.
if you don't have the hard drive xbox 360, you are screwed. -
I know this is a difficult question to answer, but if I get say the 1700 Vostro with the 1900 display and a 8600M GT, and I run fullscreen at 1280x1024 - Will I have good FPS? I mean my 6600GT desktop which I had barely ran HL2, I had to run low settings, low res (1024x768) and I would get lag moving the mouse i.e the lag felt like I had a bunjee rope connected to the cursor.

And given my experience with the MR X1600, I can't see the 8600GT having much problem with HL2 at 1280x1024. (Only I wouldn't expect max AA and AF though). The Source engine just isn't that new anymore and it was always very efficient to begin with. -
What comes across as assinine is all you complaining and trying to fit games on outdated graphics cards when these games are being specifically built for the 360 for play at 720p on your LCD TV?
I have a notebook and a 360 by the way and I am not a troll.
P.S. This is called notebookreview.com is it not? So quit "trolling" with your desktop settings dude... -
As long as the 8600 can run Starcraft 2 i'm good

The 8600M (and its higher-clocked cousin the 8700M) are often horrifyingly underestimated.
They are not enthusiast parts designed for 1920x1200 gaming.
They are notebook high-middle-grade parts designed for excellent detail at reasonable resolutions.
They DO perform very well even in DX9, they just don't outperform the final incarnation of enthusiast parts from the previous generation. The also have trouble with high detail, high resolution DX9 rendering because of intentional hardware limitations. (if Nvidia launched their 8600 series and it ran everything at 1920x1200 at 60+fps, why in billy blue blazes would anyone buy an 8800 or even an 8800 SLI system?)
Add on top of this both DX10 and Vista and the 8x00 drivers for vista are all a little wet-behind-the-ears and produce meager results on even desktop systems with 8800s and SLI.
Some examples: (8700 GT laptop details are below)
-All of my previous (release) DX9 games run extremely well at native resolution (1440x900) with almost all details turned up. These include Oblivion and NWN2... which Vista has a "recommended" rating of 5.0 listed.
-Even Lost Planet DX10 I can run un the demo at over 55fps+ average at 720x440 with the detail settings turned down... I can also run 30-40fps average at 1280x800 with details turned down which would be almost playable except for the 17-20fps dips. I am still tweaking and have yet to try some newer drivers or overclocking. (numbers are stock drivers and clock settings, but with the new MS Vista performance patches)
-Juarez DX10 demo stil runs at no more than 14fps (3-22 range... ugh) average at the lowest settings, but the windows performance patches helped me the most in this game. To be fair, the 8800s in my buddy's desktop SLI rig can only handle 35fps and the dips below 20fps make it barely playable even on his godbox.
