I think it would be good to start a new updated thread about this. Please help me update the list. So far as I know:
Most Demanding:
Crysis Warhead
Supreme Commander
GTA 4
Quad Core games:
Crysis Warhead
Supreme Commander
Supreme Commander Forged Alliance
GTA 4
DiRT
Company of Heroes and all the expansions
Bioshock
Alan Wake
The Elder Scrolls: Oblivion
World In Conflict
COD 4 and 5
Please Correct me if I am wrong![]()

GTA4 will use up to 3 cores.
I've not seen quad core make any difference for Oblivion.
Think several on your list need revising. -
Why is bioshock so demanding??
It ran very well on a mobility hd 3650/ 2.0 ghz core2duo
All high with no AA/af 1280x800 -
Really? Alan Wake has finally been released? -
-
chances are he wants to throw the toughest games at his new m17x.
-
Well in a sense, this thread would be good for the general public to get a rough know-how of CPU hungry games(although half of the list is also GPU bound).
I agree that Oblivion, CoDs 4-5, and Bioshock should not be on a CPU hungry list. My friend runs Oblivion on an HD4500M for Pete's sake lol(albeit everything at lowest)

Oblivion isn't even using 2 cores, task manager shows 50% total usage on both cores like 50%-50% or 10%-90% etc
UT3, Mass Effect use 100% of both cores -
I started this thread for those deciding on which CPU to buy. I think it might help them because then they can choose the best CPU for the games they want to play. And uh guys, you guys don't seem to get the list. There are two separate list, the "most demanding" which are Crysis Warhead, Supreme Commander, GTA 4, and then the "quad core" list
Not all on the "Quad Core" list are demanding
-
and you don't seem to get that crysis warhead isn't the demanding one- the original crysis is.
-
Or check out this comprehensive list comparing dual core 2.8GHz vs quad core 2.0GHz

You might want to revise your list as to the suggestions made by people in the thread thus far.
I haven't come across a game I can't run on my P-7805u FX -

Item Core 1 Core 2 Core 3 Core 4
avg fps 23.76 50.49 63.93 64.80
"On a quad, it uses three core(effectively), but because of the load every core takes a part of the load so it may seem like its using four cores, but it's not. A quad usually maxes out it's usage on 75% which makes it fairly evident it uses 3 out of 4 cores."

No Stalker Clear sky or Fallout 3 in the list

Here is an interviewer asking a Remedy rep about the comparisons to Alone in The Dark, in fact Alan Wake has been nicknamed Alan in The Dark. Sad really, waited 5 years for that game, anyway plenty of much better games to replace it. RIP Alan Wake, alas his consolitis was terminal.

It's at 1:16 mark the interviewer drops the bomb on him. lol

Thanks for the input guys. I will update the list ASAP.
