Thought I would put up this thread, and will do my best to edit it as time goes on. For those who want to do 2560x1600 resolution, the list of laptops is very small. Even the best mobile graphics cards *Still* dont do dual link dvi for some reason.
Anyways, Please contribute to this thread with *confirmed* support for dual link DVI. Just because you have a gtx 280m, doesnt mean you have it. (you dont)
Additionally, dont contibute laptops that dont need external hardware or a docking station to do 2560x1600 - This is native support only. Anyone can buy a vidock.
Current list:
- All current macbooks and pros, including last generation. (Last generation MBP's are capable of driving *2* 30's via the express slot.
- All Macbook airs, all generations.
- Current alienware M17x *not* the m17
- Studio XPS 16 WITH DISPLAY PORT ++ Info here
- thinkpad w700
- Clevo D901C / M860TU / M860ETU / M570TU / M570ETU (According to this)

Just an observation:
How many panels under 19" currently offer that resolution?
I understand you can hook up an external monitor but in that case why not build a PC? -
First of all, there is only one size screen that can do 2560x1600, and those are the 30 Inch panels.
The reason its important is many people need to have more real estate and they dont want to have both a desktop and laptop. -

Higher resolutions are ALWAYS better in:
CAD programs
Photoshop (and related/similar programs)
Programming/coding
and there are also a few other places where it'd be helpful I can't think of off the top of my head. -
-
As mentioned, there will always be some people who have a need for this sort of res, a good idea IMO.

Heard that some of the older sagers can do DLDVI but not sure which models.
