    Hi Guys!

im a little stuck between choosing two notebooks with different graphics:
1.it is an MSI notebook with a GeForce Go 6600 128MB Card. Price:$1154

2.is is also an MSI notebook with an ATI Mobility Radeon X700 128MB Card. Price: $1154.

    both are from rawpowerpc.com
    okay,
    which card is better?
i plan to do some moderate gaming, such as: HL2/BF2/FarCry/and maybe some DooMIII.

so, which card will play these games better (30fps+)????

    Edit:
a third notebook has caught my attention:
Gateway NX560XL with 256 MB ATI Radeon X1400....$1049

the x700 and 6600go have very similar performance if you look at these benchmarks and chaz's guide:

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=46925

the x1400 is not as good as the x700. also, if you wanted to get a machine with the x1400, the cheapest and most bang for the buck way to go is the dell e1505.

every computer is a different case. ram, hd speed, and cpu can all play a role in how well your gaming experience is. the thing about the x700 is that it can come with 256 mb. it seems that the 6600 come with max 128 mb. that will affect performance (you can actually see it on that link).

The Go6600 can also come with 256MB of DDR memory, same as the X700, but only in certain ones. For example, the Alienware (rebadged Uniwill) has an option for a 256MB Go6600, and my Sager NP-5320 has a 256MB X700. You'll typically find 256MB of dedicated video memory in the desktop replacement cards, which in turn are found in 17" notebooks.

The Go6600 and the X700 (128MB each) both have very similar performance, I would go with either. I assume you are comparing the MSI-1029 with the -1032.

I've owned notebooks with both cards. The performance is too similar to tell a difference in game. I like nvidia's control panel a little more but that is no big deal.

I would take other things into consideration, specifically if you want an amd or intel processor since I believe they are different on each laptop.

If you say that you are gonna do just moderate gaming you must consider getting something that can go on with more up to date thecnology, bucause as far as I know you only con get a core duo with a atixx000 series or the nvidia 7000 series, you will get a good videocar with either of those, a very good card for gaming, but if you're not doing only that you'll have to consider others things!!

yes, the laptops im considering are MSI-1029 with the -1032, as chaz man said.
so, i think that since both of the cards are same, then i might go with the 1029, mostly because it has an AMD 64-bit Turion processor (which is future proof). but on the other hand, the MSI 1032 LOOKS better than the 1029.
so thats why im kinda stuck. :)

but i will probably upgrade my laptop by the time vista comes so....

    i know this is off topic but, what will perform better? AMD Turion64 MT-30 (1.6GHz/1MB L2cahce) or Pentium M 1.73 (740) ?????

both laptops are same price, so i can go with either one.

EDIT: found a new one. how is it?

it costs $1182, but the Go6600 on this one has 128MB DDR2 memory, and as far as i know, that performs better than DDR

EDIT II: Dose the X700 have Full Support for Shader Model 3.0 and HDR??
    how about the Go6600?

The x700 does not support shader model 3.0. The 6600 does, although the only time i've ever heard of it being used is in 3dmark06. Honestly, both cards are already last gen and probably have more to worry about than shader model 3.0 when it comes to newer games. I wouldn't let it sway your decision.

HDR works with both as far as I know. Oblivion originally wouldn't allow it to run on older ATI cards, but I believe ATI has since released an updated driver that solved it.

While i'm at it, i'd like to also suggest the notebook I bought. You can get it pretty loaded for under $1500. I don't know about the others, but the cooling system on it is top notch - much better than my old notebook. A few others here have it and are very pleased. Flanken did a review on the site and could probably answer a lot of questions as well if you have any.

Buying from istnc was a very pleasant experience. I went with them after hearing how great they were from these forums. I haven't had any issues with my notebook so I don't know how their warranty service is, but all of my questions were answered quickly and politely. They even upgraded my wireless card free of charge.Their reseller rating score is also very high with a lot of good feedback.

The actual notebook is pretty no frill's in its design, but it does everything very well. The only negatives I could imagine would be that it doesn't have a glossy screen (actually a plus for me) and no dvi out port. Gaming performance is great for all but the most demanding new games. Flanken's review has a lot of great information as well if you haven't already read it.

It's kind of plain and boring looking. For example, the speakers are just little holes coming out of the regular plastic casing. It also doesn't have a lot of extra quick buttons or lights. But the actual hardware is above average quality.
