I've looked around and so far the only thing I have found is Call of Duty 2 which is already a bit old so I was wondering if there are any newer, popular WW2 FPS's that I have not heard about.

I highly suggest Red Orchestra if you are looking for a WWII FPS that is HIGHLY realistic. It is one of my top favorite games of all time. It has a pretty decent online community and is pretty fun once you get used to the strategy.

Day of Defeat: Source from Valve.

Agreed, DOD:S is one of the best! -
Ubersoldier. Since we're talking about 'less known' games. The game is basic, crap voice acting, dreadful storyline, similar to Return to Castle Wolfenstein. But the graphics, if you have a powerful card, are astounding in some places. One of those fun games in a mindless sense.

Well, no multi-player in uber soldier and thats a big requirement.
Now in terms of DOD:S or Red Orchestra, which one is better? -
I'd recommend Day of Defeat if you already have Steam, it's pretty easy to just get it (you probably already have it, Day of Defeat comes bundled in a lot of Counterstrike and Half-Life 2 packages).

I went ahead and bought DOD:S, I will have a chance to play it later.

DoD and Red Orchestra are both Steam games. I tried playing DoD but I didn't like it as much as Call of Duty.

You know what pisses me off? How every update released by Valve degrades performance without fixing or improving anything.
-
DoD:S is good but I just don't like it....I actually much prefer the old version, that used the HL engine. Red Orchestra is awesome.

Thing is I didn't like the Soviet vs. German forces in Red Orchestra.
I kinda tend to stay away from games if I cannot play as an American or an American armed force.

DOD:S is fun and all but I wish Valve would bring the map Caen back. The only reason why I still play the original DOD is because I love playing Caen.

Maybe so, hehe.

Yeah I agree Havok there really aren't any WWII games involving the Russians. Plus I learned a lot about the weapons of the Soviets and some lesser known German weapons.
The ppsh-41 makes it all worth it.

You would probably like Brothers in Arms. It's based on real events and the single player maps are built on the actual locations that the company went through. Not just look like, actually mapped identically to the landscape. Road to Hill 20 is the first one. I really liked it.
The Medal of Honor series and the followups were pretty good. I enjoyed them.
And it is a bit dated at this point, and not exactly realistic with the zombie/satanic angle, but I really enjoyed Return to Castle Wolfenstein. -
Well, I am a pretty good mapper. It's been atleast 4 months since I made one. Hey, if it was a really popular map, i'll definitely redo it! Give it MUCH better geometry and higher rez textures, but keep the gameplay and layout the exact same.
I don't like Red Orchestra, it's an unforgiving, somewhat confusing game.
I couldn't really understand it, and no one helped each other out, just grabbed a vehicle and went to die.
I've heard great things about battlefield 1942, but those people said that the graphics are horribly dated, but the game is very fun. -
Yeah, DoD: source is awesome. Tell me your steam account name, and we can play together some time

Ok then, I'll make it. I'll release it on FPSBanana.com in about 2 months if everything goes as planned.
btw... my steam name...... and everything else for that matter, is the exact same as my forum name
