Hello, i love these kind of games and i have played Heroes 1,2,3 and 4 so much that i know the games in my head, so i can play em without using a computer.
Now i want more games like this so feel free to give me some tips!
I have heard that Age of Wonders is like that too and Disciples. Are those cool? I played Disciples 1 a long time ago for a while but i don't remember much from it at all, so please refresh my memory.

You should buy HOMM 5
-
King's Bounty: The Legend.
...Just buy it. -
King's Bounty: The Legend looks interesting and i will buy Heroes 5 as well. I knew about heroes 5 but i dunno why i never got it.
-
I used to play a lot Disciples II, really liked it. I'd recommend it.
-
Now i borrowed Age of Wonders 2 from a friend next door
Installing now, i hope its cool even though Disciples II and HOMM 5 looks cooler

As already mentioned, the age of wonders and disciples series are really good picks. Get the shadow magic standalong game for age of wonders and preferably the Disciples 2 gold edition if you really want to invest hours into this genre.

try atlantica online

Master of Magic, if you can tolerate the graphics, is my favorite of all the turn-based strategy games based in a fantasy world...it's Master of Orion with Elves and Orcs...
Fantasy Wars is similar to HoMM (I think some of the same team that did King's Bounty and HoMM 5 were involved with Fantasy Wars), but doesn't have the strategic resource/city management that HoMM does...
The Disciples series is a little different than HoMM...your individual troops can't move during the tactical battles...you set your tanks up front and your ranged attackers in the back...therefore, combat options/strategies are limited, in my opinion, compared to HoMM...if you don't mind those limitations, I would also recommend Warlords 3 and/or 4...combat resembles a card game with the top units going against each other and then proceeding through your 'deck' (army)...
Age of Wonders 2 is a great pick... -
Age of Wonders is indeed an excellent TBSFG.

Greetings,
Yes, I would 2nd Shadow Magic from Age of Wonders, and the closest to Master of Magic that we can get, IMO. I played MoM forever. =P
I think the Warlords series is like that as well, but I'm more of RTS freak, so I can't say since I played Battlecry end of it.
You can always check into the Total War series, despite that it has some real time elements in it, and always runs really smooth, and crisp play that it can still seem like a turn based game.
G'Luck,

Master of Orion is the grand daddy of it's Genre. I'd say thats as good as it gets... to bad number 2 sucked so hard and they will never make a 3.
Also on steam you can get the HoMM 5 bundle with the expansion packs. Loved those games SO much. Go for it! -
Gonna second King's Bounty here. It's absolutely fantastic, and my personal favorite in this genre.
-
But I agree with Master of Orion (the original) being the granddaddy/mommy of the genre (no disrepect to the original Civ) and still one of the funnest to play...and the sequels got progressively worse...I found the second tolerable and Steve Barcia had a hand in it...the third didn't use any of the original team and missed the vision...I consider Galactic Civ series the true heir to Master of Orion...Last edited by a moderator: Jan 29, 2015 -
