    Hi guys,

I’m a Nvidia 8600M GT user. We all know that 8600M GT series had (maybe having) issues with frame stuttering etc, on most games. This was later found to be a known issue in the series by Nvidia as well… This has been a hot discussion sometime ago and fixes suggested by forum members fixed or improved the condition for some but not all; and unfortunately, I’m one of them… I gave up trying fixing the issue quite some time ago… :(

But now I need to know whether Nvidia has come up with a solid fix to the issues containing in 8600M GT. Is there an official driver that fixes this issue? I did a search on the forum but I couldn’t come up with a later post that says anything similar to what I’m looking for.

I’ll be appreciated if anybody who has kept a close eye on this issue could reply this post with the latest updates on the matter.

    Thanks in advance,

Huh? I didn't see anything about Rivatuner in the OP's post.

You say you gave up on fixing it? So what is the driver you have currently installed? And what games were you having problems with stuttering? I have not heard anything specific about this issue. Other then random posts from people have stuttering issues with "this driver" on "this game". I would first start with the Dell 174.31's if you have not tried those yet. I don't think you can get them from the Vostro page (I know you can't from the M1530 page). But you can from the Insprion 1710 driver page.

If that does not fix it for you. Go to laptopvideo2go.com and try the 174.74's, those are very popular. If no love there, you could try the latest 175.80's. I tried those, but they gave me issues with sleep and video playback. I am currently using 174.31's from Dell. They give good performance, and run about 3c cooler then others that I have found.

    Good luck! :)

I don't know dude. I have never seen close to 90C on my M1530. Does the Vostro really get that hot?

Mine has never been passed 72C.

To the OP, skip 174.31. Try 171.16, 174.74, or 175.16, they're all much better. LaptopVideo2Go.

I'm having the same issue. My GPU goes up to 97 C but the stuttering starts way below that temperature.

If you disable Powermizer, in the control panel for XP or via the registry in Vista, you will probably stop any kind of stuttering. Personally I think a lot of the stuttering is related to drivers. I currently run 174.12 after trying various drivers and these seem to be the only ones that only downclock to 275/200 when I'm gaming, for a second or so. Thankfully it is not noticeable. All the newer drivers I've tried downclock to 275/200 then 168,100 and don't go back up unless I disable Powermizer, which I don't want to do as having the fan run constantly when working is a bit noisy. I know not everyone can use 174.12 to stop stuttering so I think it is trial and error. The newest drivers are not necessarily the best for your particular hardware.

Try setting 'maximum pre-rendered frames' to 8, in the Nvidia control panel. It reduced stuttering with my config.
