Hey everyone... I'm not such a computer gamer but I just got a new laptop and want to find a fun game to play on it... its a Inspiron 1420 and I'll list the specs in a second... in general I want a fun strategy game where you develop a lot and eventually go to battle... I saw "Game of the Year" Civilization at Best Buy and thought it might be cool... any suggestions or opinions?

    Intel Core 2 Duo T7300 - 2.0 Ghz 800 FSB and 4 mb cache
    2.00 GB of ram
    NVIDIA GeForce 8400 M GS
    14.1 inch screen
    Vista

    is anything else relevant?

How about Warcraft 3 and Starcraft? They're old games, but lots and still my favorite RTS's.

Medieval Total War 2 is really a good game. Just look at the different ratings everywhere. Its a mix of real-time strategy (the battles) and turn-based strategy (the empire's management part).

It should run quite well, but not on max (I can't even run it on max)

I think Age of Empires III is a great game. Yes, AOE is an RTS. There's a new expansion for AOE III arriving this fall adding Asian civilizations.

Command & Conquer 3 is a great RTS as well. Starcraft II looks very promising.

M2 is the best thing to turn up on my comp.

would run fine on medium settings.

Medieval 2 works decently well on my x1400 (while having less then 4k troops on the screen). so yeah, you should have no problem running it, just lower the resolution. Anyways, its a great game, and I've heard there might be an expansion pack coming up (not sure on this though).

I recently bought an RTS/RPG hybrid called SpellCaster 2. This is a pretty cool game. Nice graphics and runs well on my lower spec laptop.

RTS games seem to sort of defy age. even really old (good) rts games have a lot of popularity.

    i would try AOE 3.

Well if you don't want to wait for SC2, the next best thing would be Warcraft 3. I actually really liked Red Alert 2, anyone else dig that game?
