Hey everyone... I'm not such a computer gamer but I just got a new laptop and want to find a fun game to play on it... its a Inspiron 1420 and I'll list the specs in a second... in general I want a fun strategy game where you develop a lot and eventually go to battle... I saw "Game of the Year" Civilization at Best Buy and thought it might be cool... any suggestions or opinions?

age of empires 3? command and conquer 3? supreme commander? empire earth 2? civilization 4?
they're all good but i'm not sure how they would work on your laptop. -
Age of Empires 3 came out so long ago... I'm looking for newer games
-
How about Warcraft 3 and Starcraft? They're old games, but lots and still my favorite RTS's.
-
so is age of empires considered an RTS?

what do you guys think about Medieval II Total War...
is it a good game?
would it run fine on my system (no lags)? -
Medieval Total War 2 is really a good game. Just look at the different ratings everywhere. Its a mix of real-time strategy (the battles) and turn-based strategy (the empire's management part).
It should run quite well, but not on max (I can't even run it on max) -
I think Age of Empires III is a great game. Yes, AOE is an RTS. There's a new expansion for AOE III arriving this fall adding Asian civilizations.
Command & Conquer 3 is a great RTS as well. Starcraft II looks very promising. -
would run fine on medium settings. -
thanks yall, i think i'm going to go with medieval 2

Medieval 2 works decently well on my x1400 (while having less then 4k troops on the screen). so yeah, you should have no problem running it, just lower the resolution. Anyways, its a great game, and I've heard there might be an expansion pack coming up (not sure on this though).

I recently bought an RTS/RPG hybrid called SpellCaster 2. This is a pretty cool game. Nice graphics and runs well on my lower spec laptop.

RTS games seem to sort of defy age. even really old (good) rts games have a lot of popularity.
i would try AOE 3. -
Wait till SC 2 comes out =)

dont wait pfft.

Supreme commander... Command and Conquer 3... thats all ive got. Oh and Rise of Nations, and Empire of Earth III
-
Well if you don't want to wait for SC2, the next best thing would be Warcraft 3. I actually really liked Red Alert 2, anyone else dig that game?
Looking for a fun game similar to age of empires II
