Its on steam or you can buy it from the developers site directly. There is a demo on steam so you can try before you buy and thats great.

Like the thread title this is the game to get if you like to be spooked. Its wayy worse than Dead Space witch freaked a lot of people out.

In Dead Space you have weapons, if something is coming to kill you, you just kill it first. In Amnesia your helpless (more realistic like you would be in real life against "the darkness") evasion & witts are all you have to survive and the castle is just creepy as heck.

Exploring gives me that same sense of feeling that I got when I played Resident Evil for the first time as a kid. The system where you have both a health bar and a insanity bar really adds more tension to the mix since you have to stay out of the dark, but the dark is the only place to be safe against the monsters.

    Pretty neat indeed.

So - Play on a good monitor with proper gamma settings, Play at night alone with headphones on, Play in the dark = Recipe for a good time.

I second this. I´m in the sewers and I´ve already had my fair share of scares. You should also try Penumbra Overture and Black Plague, made by the same developer.

I watched the the video on steam, looks pretty cool. I like you could move objects on the ground, move tables in front of doors, and hide on closets. I might not buy it though, because I never finished a game that scared the crap out of me! :D Other games I played that scared me were the silent hill series. I have silent hill games and never finished them (too scared to go on lol).

Played this several times yesterday. I use the word "several" because I did chicken out a few times and turned it off to take a mental health break. Frictional Games (only 5 people!!!) has talent, no other publisher/developer has created anything like this (other than their Penumbra series) and it's definitely worth the $20.

Awesome game and I hope many will support it. Frictional games make the best Survival Horror games so far. Penumbra series is a masterpiece and Amnesia brings a new horror to us.

I am currently on the sewers and it has been a blast to play. But damm is it scary.. Sometimes I just stop because its too much. :D

Just tried the demo. It does have a pretty jittery feel even when playing in a bright room. The fact that you don't just shoot or kill the monster is a different approach from conventional games I've been playing. The change is pretty refreshing overall. :)

Just beat it, took most of the day + a few hours last night.

I kinda got used to the "fear" near the end so it didnt freak me out as much but it was a good game to play till the end.

I'll definitely check out the earlier games they released now as well.

I love these style of games, wish there were more. Played the Penumbra series too and I notice a lot of similarities. Currently in the cells/prisons which has made it a little scarier.

Mid game I decided to have some fun with the monster and jumped up on a ledge and threw barrels at it while it flailed around on the ground.

This is definitely a way to remove some of the fear.

But as the developers have asked, the BEST way to enjoy this game is to submerse yourself in the game; play it in the dark, low gamma, headphones on LOUD and take the game slow. Don't play it like a game to beat, play it for the real experience.

Playing it during the day with the lights on is cheating.

I remember playing Penumbra...the fact that u have the inability of weapon usage adds to the fear factor...one needs to adjust to the fact that u ain't kicking some monster's behind with a BIG GUN

I never found Penumbra to quench my scare thirst. I still remember the lead-up to the first encounter: bloody operating tables, heavy breathing, psychosis, then what? Some humanoid thing with an arm in its belly that walks in straight lines.

I almost think their games would be better with NO direct contact with the enemy, as they go to incredible lengths to create the environment and ruin it all with anti-climatic enemies.

I checked out this game, I may get it, but I'm "scared" it will be an awful lot like Penumbra, which is not scary enough. That being said, I still enjoyed it immensely (minus some glaring plot holes)

I think you are gonna be a bit disappointed with this game, because the enemies (or should I say, enemy, because there's only one kind) are way too easy to avoid. There are some chase bits that are really good, though.

For what it's worth, they do say right from the start that this is a game that you shouldn't play to "win", but rather one that you immerse yourself into. I know that some people can't do that or think, "well why even play it then?", but I'm just going based off what the developers tell you to do right off the bat. I don't have any personal experience yet as I downloaded it and started it then had to shut it down because of other plans, but I hope to play through it sometime soon.

No one was talking about winning; we were talking about immersion (or the breaking thereof). The enemies in Penumbra had a tendency of breaking it because of the poor AI (it pretty much ruined it for me when I was able to play ring-around-the-rosy with a supposedly "scary" enemy and a pillar), and because the well-designed and suspenseful environments were downplayed by the feeling you get when you encounter the enemy ("that's it? that's supposed to be the big scary thingamagoo?")

As I say, if they wanted it to be played for immersion and without "winning" goals, they should have improved the enemy or just scrapped it altogether and made it a player-vs-environment or psychological thriller.

Nothing creeps me out more than the invisible guys in the water, they move fast and it makes you panic when your trying to jump up to a safe platform and miss a few times.

Not being able to see the enemy makes it more scary, in doom64 the invisible demons always freaked me out the most.

The other thing that was smart in Amnesia is that you cant look at the enemies.... if you do your vision goes blurry as your sanity starts to give way.

So your forced to look away and that leaves your mind to wander about the unknown adding to the fear factor (is it coming my way? is it going away? did it see me?)

Not only is the game itself good but the plot/background is great, id have to say it host the most demented bad guy I have ever seen in a game and the good guy was almost just as bad as him at some point.

I was dissapointed with the ending it was short and lame (all 3 of them lol) and I do wish the game was a bit longer. Once you learn the basic methods of evading the enemies and get the hang of the game it becomes less scary and a lot easier but still overall a great game.

I am going to replay it in eyefinity mode to add an extra layer of immersion and make sure its at night when I am sleepy and in the dark with my headphones on :D

My uDAC-2 is en-route says its due on the 24th.. I have a feeling it may get here early though since it made it over half way here in 2 days, but sometimes they just hold items like one state away or even closer for 2 days :/

Good luck with that. :) You going to give us a review when you get it?

BTW, the even the trailer on Steam seems to really highlight how good it is. Like the blurring of the camera when you look at some monster.

Can't wait to finish off my current games and get started on this. :D

No, if they were why would people do things like sky diving, rollercoasters, haunted houses, etc.

Fear, Adrenaline, Excitement. Core and raw emotions can extract more enjoyment out of a game.

I was looking forward to this game after reading so many glowing reviews, but I have to wonder if I was playing the same game as these reviewers.

The sound design and imagery didn't feel at all scary to me, partly because I didn't find the main character compelling enough to care whether he finds his way out of this place. It seemed to me to be basically a puzzle game without much story development and found the interface a bit inconvenient and unwieldy to perform simple tasks like opening doors and manipulating objects.

I purposely tried to make him go insane to see if the game would become interesting but nothing seemed to happen, and then I got stuck at the room with all the boxes that are inconvenient to move around and the hole in the ceiling. Maybe I will give it another chance in a few weeks.

It was running fine and now after I changed the driver, when I try to run this game, it says it does not know my 280M gpu and sets the config to medium.
Even though when I launch the game, it just freezes and I have to shut it down from the device manager. Any idea?

Haven't read the whole thread, but is anybody experiencing control issues on this game? I'll be buying it, though probably waiting for a Black Friday or Christmas sale, but I'd like to know if they optimized the interface compared to Penumbra, which always felt just a little too cumbersome to me.

Fair enough. Like I said, I haven't even played it myself yet, so I can't argue either way. I just know that some people find little tricks to make the game easier so they can beat it/"win" so I thought that may have been a possibility as to why some people weren't enjoying it. However, a bad climax definitely ruins an otherwise awesome game/movie/etc. so that is disappointing to hear.

    No control issues.

I am the reverse of your situation. I played this first and enjoyed it so today went to try the earlier games. I tried for an hour to play the first Penumbra and just cant stand the controls/inventory system and the graphics are so far away from this newer title (4:3 resolution even!)

So dont worry about the controls in this game, they work great and feel natural.

I gave this game a try (I like immersive and/or scary games). It seems somewhat spooky when you're really into it, but as soon as you get stuck (and start thinking logically about what you may have missed, rather than what might happen with wherever you're walking), that effect is totally lost. I need to find the fourth thing to make that corrosive chemical, but I can't seem to find it. All four are in the wine cellar, right?

When a game is good, it will sell. I will install the Demo later and give it a try and of course, will buy it if I enjoy. However, I have seen some users say they enjoyed the Demo but where to scared to buy it.........

Looks promising! Can you intentionally go insame and play though the game as a nut job?
