The actual game is from a "bird's eye" persepective - you see everything from a top view (it's basically a 2d game). You start out with a small white shuttle and can upgrade your ship with weapons, shields, etc. I can only remember 3 different kinds of weapons, green lazers, blue lazers, and missles.
You can go from system to system (and can even get to Earth and Mars). You can earn money by killing pirates and delivering goods, etc. To can spend money on upgrades or bigger and better ships.
Well, this is all that I can remember. The game is an old one (probably made in like 1995-2000).
Any help that would lead to the name / game would be great! Thanks![]()

i remember playing something like this...on an iMac...this was back in like 2000 probably...i remember trying to find it for windows later and couldnt
the one i played was top-down 2d and you could move in any direction on the screen -
Starflight?
-
And yes anarky, I had a mac at the time and played it on that. -
Probably Star Control then. Same type of game, but newer.
*EDIT* Here's the Wiki on it:

...sounds like the time period you were thinking of too. -
Solar winds?
lol, totally not -
Not really old, but Starscape?
-
Okay, I think my time period is a bit off...
Thank you for all of the suggestions, but I think that the game is a bit newer than those. -
lol give us more info.
Top down, white ship, upgradable
Did it scroll or was it free movement?
What kind of enemies were there?
Was there any kind of resource management, or were upgrades powerups? -
The game have free movement, when you when to a planet a small panel can up where you could get a background, hire more crew members, or trade parts ect.
There were two major factions in the game - I don't quite remember what their names were, but basically the classic Empire (good) vs Pirates (evil).
Each ship could hold a certain number of weapons and that was how you upgraded your damage. I remember that I would get raped by huge ships with at least 12-15 guns on them.
There was also a money system. If you died, you lost everything and "escaped on an escape pod" and were picked up by passing frieghters.
Hopes that helps -
ill say what i remember, and sorry if im budging in on your thread, but the 2d space shooter i played on a mac you pressed the directional keys and it moved across the screen but if you let go it would still float with inertia until you engaged the thrusters again; also i THINK you would float past planets or maybe you flew into teh planet and that would initiate the 'docking'? very very hazy but i still remember what it looks like in my head lol
im amazed i remember nothing about this game, im pretty sure i spent at least a full day playing it -
Oops. My bad, ignore this post.
