I'm thinking about buying a decent FPS game. I'm mostly leaning towards online play but good single player action is also fun as well. I was thinking either bf2 bf2142 or COD4. I use to really enjoy the battlefield series (1942) so I was kind of leaning towards bf2 but I am not sure if there would be enough people on the servers. I heard COD4 has reasonable MP experience and amazing single player experience so I am not to sure what to pick. I was also thinking of team fortress 2 but I think I need the orange box for that and I was never a huge halflife fan. Any other FPS suggestions would be good too.

Also my notebook is Sager 9262 so I don't think I have to worry to much about performance.

You can buy TF2 standalone for $29.99 I believe, but at that price, you may as well get the Orange Box.

I'd say get BF2 if you really liked 1942, but eventually, if you like FPS games, you should really get all 3, they're all amazing.

I'd also recommend Duke Nukem 3D for the strippers, they have pixelated nipples.

COD4 is an amazing game. I have it on PS3, so I couldn't buy it again for pc. I really would though, if there weren't other great games soon to arrive. The online is beyond addictive. the single player is really good. I don't play battlefield, so I can't comment on that. COD4 is frontrunner for one of best ever fps, imo. Bioshock is good for fps, but it doesn't have any online, which from what you said is really what you want. The orange box is quite a good package, and you not only get tf2 but portal, which is supposed to be good. You don't like half-life, but for that price and package, you could probably put up with it. :) go 4 COD4.....

you can't go wrong with either game. Both are probably the best online FPS multiplayer games out there aside from what valve offers.

If you're looking for something a bit more intense you can check out UT3. I've been having loads of fun with that game.

There is always someone on a server on bf But I would get Bf2142.
Tons OF gear to customize and tons of players and the vechlie are tons of fun.
Cod4 is really good if you like running around and shooting fast. (Because if you are slow than there is really no chance for you).
UT3 is just fun because is not really hardcore fps. Almost like bf 2142 except the weapons aren't real possiable. Aim is alittle werid. And death is going to happen. Point blank there is really no pro at UT3.

well for a guy like me i tried all of those new games, "Crysis,Bioshock,UT3,the battlefields,Timeshift,Gears Of War, every game you can think of cause i buy them with 1.5$" so if you ask me for online extreme fun you can get Ut3 and COD4,if you are looking for some offline Unique insane FPS game go for BIoshock, personally it stunned me, the Graphics,How the people act, the plasmids, etc.

I just finished COD4 last night...a fun fps but its quite short if you play it as a single player.

    now onto COD2!

I'll probably try the COD4 demo today so that should help a bit. Is bf2 better than 2142? I heard that the graphics in 2142 are kind of boring but it improves many of the gameplay aspects missing in bf2.

    Thanks for the help

    I'd definately recommend COD4.

The single player and multiplayer aspects are both absolutely fantastic. You won't be dissapointed.

Bioshock deserves an honourable mention as well, but remember that it has no multiplayer. It's worth it tho. :D

If you liked BF1942, chances are quite high you'll really like BF2. Battlefield 1942 was my favorite FPS for quite awhile (BFV seemed a bit bland in comparison), and I recently tried BF2 and it adds so much to BF1942. The AI is much better (Veteran, the second of three levels, is much more difficult than "impossible" in BF1942) and your options are much better as well (duck in turret, guided missiles, limited jumping and running, etc.). One of my favorite moments was on FuShe pass where an AI snuck up on me when I was out of ammo, so I threw a grenade and ran down a ladder leading below a dam, avoiding the explosion right above while killing the AI. Another time an AI jumped out from the other side of the wall I was hiding behind and shotgunned me before I knew what was happening - definitely the most shocking AI attack I've seen in any Battlefield game.

The maps are quite good, too - you can really take advantage of the terrain. Lots of buildings are accessible, either inside or on the roof, but you have to balance the advantage of height with artillery strikes that are devastating if you don't have somewhere to hide. I re-enacted a few scenes from the Bourne Ultimatum, jumping from rooftop to rooftop, just for for, and then used them for real to avoid artillery strikes.

I'd go for the Complete Collection if you do choose BF2. More maps is always good, and the new weapons are great. The Zipline is quite possibly the best, it's brilliant for escaping tight situations. Flashbangs and tear gas are also there, and the AI will occasionally use them. I remember the time I threw tear gas thinking it was a smoke grenade and ran right into it...yeah, that was a mistake.

I've only played the first two parts of CoD 4 single player - BF2 was so good once I started that I've yet to get to CoD 4. But you'll be fine with performance on either game.

i would go with cod4 of bf2 too but if you want a versitile selection of games and playing a majority of them in multi player, browse on the steam website, every thing from stalker, to counter strike source, day of defeat source, anyhting half life, and natural selection is a good online game too but you need a copy of half life in steam which costs about 10 bucks to play
