I'm trying to determine whether to keep my new M17x or return it but I don't own any newer games. Are there demos available for BF3 or something similar? I looked for BF3 in particular and it seems the answer is no, but anything else similar that I haven't heard of?

Lame topic for a thread but I'm quite far out of the loop on current games, the only games newer than WoW that I know of are pretty much StarCraft II and SW:TOR

I'd just like to download some new-ish demos to see system performance, right now I'm feeling rather down on the 7970m. Thanks

What was your motivation for ordering a top-of-the-line gaming M17X if you don't play current games? If you bought it on a whim or on some bad advice, then feel free to return it and buy something more suitable, but if you have a good use for its power, gaming or otherwise, then you might as well keep it.

I'd like to play current and upcoming games, but my old pc couldn't really handle it so there wasn't much reason to stay on top of what exists. Downloading SC2 and Sniper Elite V2 Demo tonight, we'll see how they go. I also have Diablo 3 on pre-order and my old pc could only run it on medium, that was the primary motivation.

If you tell us your specs we can give you a better idea of the system. (GPU/CPU are the only important specs we need.)

You can play any game you want without any problems. If you run into slowdowns it's probably because the drivers are new for the 7XXX series. A 7970m is a beastly GPU and it is the current highest performing mobile GPU on the market. A 3610 will not bottleneck you at all either. You have a monster there really.

Look at AMD's last flagship/also NVIDIA's current fastest GPU released the 675m( this is really a rebadged 580m) vs the 7970m

That was what I thought too but WoW is giving me some major slowdowns in real-world gameplay (see my other thread here) so I'm looking to try out some other games and see if the problem is isolated to WoW. Basically trying to determine whether an upgrade to a desktop system is going to be necessary to achieve fully fluid performance in current games.

Your answer is no you won't need a desktop to achieve fully fluid performance. If you get a desktop sure you will have way more performance, but that GPU is roughly better than or = to a Desktop GTX 570. Like I said any issues you are having is probably due to the infancy of the drivers. Also, you never linked your other thread. lol :p Now you may not be able to play the game completely maxed out, but pretty close to it. Like 4x AA and whatever.

Everyone raves about what a beast this card is but it seems one of the few people that recieved a machine from a manufacturer with the card installed isn't that impressed. As though everyone posting benchmarks has a modded machine with everything overclocked but the keyboard. I've been gonna order a new machine from Mythlogic for three weeks butt havn't pulled the trigger yet waiting out this video card circus ...

Testing it on WoW = not the best idea

Testing it on Crysis 2/Metro/Skyrim/Any other decent game = mind blown
