I'm tring to upgrade my Nvidia 8800M GTX over clocked edtion. I'm using an alienware M15X with 4 GB of Ram and an intel core duo over clocked edtion. I have taken my laptop to a place that does laptop hardware work to which they said there suppliers do not have anything better that would fit in that slot. Tech guy did not tell me what slot it uses. Do not want to buy new laptop since I spent 4 G's on this one. Any suggestions?

Is there another solution besides that since it causes overheating?

Or is there a good place to sell this machine? One place I checked out said it was worth 1/20 of what I paid for it.

I would say more like 1/8 of what you paid if 4 grand is true.

I believe the overheating was due to the fact that they used a Geforce 280M GTX which is a pretty warm card, so maybe a different GPU such as a 260M or possibly a 460M would work? As for selling you can try putting it up on ebay, kijiji, craigslist, etc but I would highly suggest putting it up on notebookreview's market place first, because you can avoid a lot of unnecessary fees and might find a local buyer to make things easier.

The 460m is a MXM 3.0 Type B card, which definitely won't work physically.
This system uses the old MXM 2.0/2.1 standard (I'm not 100 percen sure which one) The connector type needs to be Type IV or HE, Type II should work as well.
The system should work with a 260m, but make sure you get the right one... most 260m which you find online are MXM 3.0 and won't work.

I was also wondering about being able to install a second video card since I came accross a kit to do that for a different laptop.

The m15x can only take one card, there's no way around that.
