I am looking for reviews from actual players and not people paid to praise or pan a game.![]()
I loved Dark Souls 1 and 2 and this game is supposed to follow in that line of thought in game design and difficulty.
Some of you might have gotten an early-release version and have reviews at this time, some of you have the day off and can play when it releases around noon.
I am not that lucky.![]()

Sounds kinda buggy or poorly optimized, judging from the PCGamer review: Lords of the Fallen review - PC Gamer

Ugh, I was so hoping that all cross-platform developers would have learned from Dark Souls 1's mistakes.
It didn't stop DS1 from being incredible... although it took mod developers to truly fix. -
As a Dark Souls fan, this is a must play game for me. It should be a little easier, but the devs have said they have placed many optional challenges in LOTF which I intend to finish.
But need to get a computet first. Still waiting to see what Alienware offer first -
Anyone pick it up yet?
Reviews are mixed
71 average critics and 7.7 average players.
-A lot of positive about the combat engine, a lot of negative about the story (you are a killer and kill things... you just happen to be killing demons now)
-A lot of mixed reviews about crashes and issues. (apparently if you have above a desktop 760, you will play just fine... with a few odd bugs)
-A lot like Dark Souls... a little easier perhaps. Death is not quite so punishing.
-Loot system is more like Diablo (loot variations depending on magic find... not necessarily better than DS2 IMHO)
Anyone playing with keyboard/mouse?
(I hate console controllers.)maxheap likes this. -
I picked it up for the sake of science/reviewing, lol. I'm having a hard time getting used to the battle system, my timing is way off. It's a slow paced battle, but you have to manage your blocks and attacks just right. I blow through health quickly in the first mission. So far plays fine on 860m and SLI 980m. No crashes yet. I'm playing with keyboard mouse (is there anything else for PC?
)

I dunno, man. I play all my third-person RPG's with a 360 controller.

From what I've seen (watched a few streamers who are quite good and deep into Dark Souls 1/2 play it) the game looks mostly dark-souls-y. It seems to have some annoying parts to it from what I saw, more like "bad enemy design" versus "skill is the way to go". Kind of like how in Dark Souls 2 enemies will track you in the middle of attacks they can't recover from so you can't backstab them leaving you exceedingly annoyed? Yeah like that.
That being said, it looks fairly fun, but I don't know if it's a solid $60. I'm a REAL hard judge of a $60 worth though, and I don't find many games that came out in the last couple years were worth a $60. So up to you guys. -
It looks like your traditional dungeon crawler. So far enemies stay put until you enter their "zone". Camera control is taking a bit to get used to. -

You're right. It's a religion. And that's not one of its 10 commandments!

I beat DS1 and 2 using mouse and keyboard.
Even with as bad as DS1 was with mouse/keyboard, it was still SO much better than the PS3 controller I used for Demon's Souls it isn't even funny.
Yes, I know the Xbox360 controller is slightly better and the PS4 and XBone controllers are arguably slightly better than that... it still feels like using a sledgehammer for brain surgery though.
I played a bit of it on my friend's PS4... think I have to buy this one. (on PC of course)Cloudfire likes this. -
Oh yeah, and I'm sure all of you are playing Project Cars with M+K also. Get out of town.
360 pad is better for 3rd person action games, minus those that rely heavily on shooting. No contest. -

Most comfortable setup for me has been Nostromo keypad + wireless trackball mouse. These two devices make a perfect combo - I can comfortably game on the sofa in big picture mode or at my desk, even for a long stretch, without getting cramped wrist muscles. -
One of the benefits of gaming on a computer is that you do not HAVE to put up with the clunky console controllers when they make no sense at all.
The only game type which favors the console controller (on a PC) at this time are real-time sports games or 3rd person fighters like street fighter or mortal kombat for which the analog mini joysticks fit well with the original control scheme.
As for anything RPG where precision and when and where is most important... mouselook is absolutely unrivaled. Both DS1 and 2 would have been a LOT better if the "lock on" mechanic was completely removed and true mouselook was put in. The only reason there was even a comparison is because From Software didn't want to allow PC users that level of control as it would break some of their encounters and make rebalancing for PC absolutely necessary. (one of my only complaints with the DS series)
If LotF follows the DS control scheme to the letter, then Mouse/KB will only be arguably better instead of unrivaled. I will use mouse/kb most likely if this is the case for familiarity. -
