Anyone remember this? With the advent of asssasins creed, I need to squeeze every little last second of power from my laptop. The program used to turn windows into as low a power mode and ram mode as physically possible: e.g. removing themes, removing random services, supports.

Anyone remember what this was called and where I could get it?

Search the forum for something called "Game Profile", it works best on XP and works (somewhat) on Vista.

If your on XP, you can close explore.exe and run the game using the task manager. This is probably what hogs most of the resources. Just type C: after your done so explorer goes back on

For vista you can close dwm.exe (aero) and explore.exe

Try typing this into the run command prompt before gaming:
    rundll32.exe advapi32.dll,ProcessIdleTasks

That should execute all background tasks to completion. The ones that CAN be stopped at least.

And make sure you defrag the hard drive some time.
