I took some screenshots running the DirectX 10 version of Lost Planet. It has some pretty nifty effects. Will be interesting to see what the final product looks like.

It is interesting becuase when I was running, it was only utilizing 25% of each core or less. I wonder what is up with that.

The distance dynamic rendering is really nice. It's nice to see anti-aliasing on even the furthest wall away from you.

Do you have some far-away shots, like looking into the distance, where you can see that rendering in action, where there's geometry on the farthest mountains or whatnot?

Looks incredible anyway. Explosions are clearly more complex than in DX9 games.

Yea, I've run the DX9 version too. There is definitly a difference in explosions, particles, etc.

I don't have any far away shots at the moment mostly becuase the game is outside and you can't actually see that far (blowing snow is in the way). I'll see what I can get though.

BTW, that was with 8x anti aliasing, it runs smooth maxed out, but I can't get fraps to work in Vista to show frame rates.

Yea, Lost Planet uses that snow effect to hide poor z-axis draw distance. It enhances the performance for sure, but I think it looks like crap. (The snow effect is an opaque gradient, so it also looks nice for what it is, but makes culling very easy.)

EDIT: I noticed your first shot shows very well how poor the draw distances are in some instances.

The DX10 effects look very sweet though.

Is the game any different than the 360 version. Because I really did not like it.

    I doubt it.

Using the desktop, my lappy wouldn't run it because 1) it is DirectX 10 and 2) it is graphically intensive (I doubt the DX 9 version would run on my lappy either).

Yea, I am pretty sure my x300 won't run it even with an OC. With an OC my GPU performs on par with an x1400, so I doubt that would run it either.

Only the explosions of the fire seems to be different than the dx9 version. For the rest i can't find much difference.

The motion blur effects are much heavier, and I think look really good in game, however it does make getting good monster closeup screenshots kinda ttricky

Yup, DX10. Nice to see you again ikovac! :)

I agree. It is hard to make a comparison of DX10 and DX9 for this game. You can't capture it to well in a screenshot.

Iceman, I realized the other day that FRAPS won't work in Vista (I didn't have success anyway). Do you know of another piece of software that will monitor frame rates?

I truly hated this demo. It had to be run with several settings turned to low or medium and some options turned off to get a decent res (1280x800 or above), and even then it would occasionally dip below the 30fps mark. On top of that, the controls were really jerky, and the graphics were far below the system requirements IMO. The draw distances were terrible, despite high resolutions and 2xAA, things still looked blocky and textures appeared pixelated at times, and the snow made anything hard to see outside. There is also a very noticeable lack of fit-and-finish, with Xbox 360 markers and images showing up all throughout the menus. It's sad that this is taxing my system so much (when the only mobile GPUs better than mine are currently the 79x0GTXs) for so many problems. Unfortunately, I think this will be the definitive DX10 benchmark until Crysis arrives, though I don't think it deserves it in any way.

Not offhand, I usually use fraps, though I hardly ever measure my frame rate, I was using the in game counter.

I doubt this will be "THE" benchmark for very long, isnt quake wars on the verge of release? There also Call of Juarez.

This game is ported very ****ty. When i turn settings (except textures) to low i can't find many differences in quality while i get huge performance boosts. I even get black artifacts in the game. I think the game can be made much better than it is now.

Iceman, thanks for letting me know about FRAPS. Hopefully they will get it working for Vista soon.

    notebook_ftw and PC_pulsar:

I couldn't agree with you more, this is a very bad demo, DX10 or not. It is not polished and looks like it was just ported right over from the 360. It would have been nice if they would have spent the time and given it more polish. I am still waiting for Crysis. ;)

It is a hell of a lot better than the the initial DX8 offerings....better stuff is on the way.
