Ranks are all client side. Unless you back up your profile folder, you will have to start over again

All you have to do is rename the backup file. Remove the ".bak" from the filename.

Tried that... no luck.. If i read that article correctly , u have to move it to another folder... i tried that too... I'm just putting some screenshots of what's in the specific folder of players....

In pic 1 and 2 i'm showing the top and the bottom of that folder... now what do i have to do there?

Also i tried another way... in the steam client , i checked the integrity of the files but no luck. Isn't there some way of retriveing the data from steam cloud?

    Any more suggestions plz?

    Thanks
    Sean473

P.S : This gets more weird... When i checked the integrety of the multiplayer files , my multiplayer stats came back but my sp and special ops still isn't working... this gets weirder by the minute...

I nver liked steam and this doesn't make me like it more.

It's not anyone's fault. It's a data corruption error. You're blaming your car manufacturer for hitting a pothole.

For future reference, it's best not to mess with hardware while games are running. ;)
Multiplayer ranks are stored in the Steam Cloud, but single player and Special Ops progress are only stored locally. Silly system.
Nope, multiplayer rank is stored in Steam Cloud. You can reformat and reinstall Windows and MW2, or install it on a completely different computer, and your rank, stats, weapons, attachments, classes, etc. will all be exactly as you left them. Only single player campaign and Special Ops progress will be lost, and you can manually back those up.

    ^^^this.

it is either microsoft's fault or IW's fault for the existence of the pothole. the OS crashed and your stats data was being written to... bam. nothing anyone can do at that point. your data is left in an indeterminate state.

at best, proper programming can lead to exception safety. however, it is not easy to protect against OS failure, sudden blackouts, etc. as far as keeping data intact.

the question is- what caused the crash? was it microsoft's shoddy OS or IW's shoddy game? hard to say.

Well i don't think it was my fault... the drive wasn't even connected to power... stupid game has BSOD at least 3 times.... well at least i had a backup... looks like i'll have to make one regularly... Multiplayer has no problem as it automatically updates but sp has a lot of problems...
