Now I always thought it was strange that my Dell laptop which is almost 2 & half years old struggled a little bit running Halo PC on full graphics, yeah I only had an Intel 945gma but I could still run HL2 on at least medium graphics smoothly. But a few days ago I played Halo PC for the 1st time in quite a while on my new Alienware m15x which has a 2.5ghz, 8800GTX, & 2gb Ram. The funny thing was I noticed the Alienware couldn't of been getting more than 25fps at most with the occasional jutter yet I play Crysis on high everything more smoother than playing freaking Halo PC. I'll have to go test it with an app like FRAPS or something just to make sure it was as low fps as I thought it was, I'll report back soon.
So my question to you all is do you ever notice lower fps on games which are older or less graphic hungry than say more current games that you play?
-
what driver version are you using?
-
change drivers, watch over temps(you may experience downclocking, the AW is renown for that) and also, make sure you`re on the High performance /Always On preset.
-
AND! check power settings are on High Performance! and not balanced / power saver
-
I'd say it's down to your cpu and of course vista. You should run it fine maxed at 1440 res with 40 fps+.

masterchef341 The guy from The Notebook
you should be running it maxed at 1440 with 80+ fps...

Check the video drivers, all mobile system manufacturers have officially sanctioned drivers which may be a bit behind from newer driver releases and cause problems.
Try the last two or three versions from laptopvideo2go.com, I experienced lots of graphics issues when running the stock drivers on my laptop and tested the ones from laptopvideo2go and all problems were solved, also, games ran faster.
Also, you may want to run the game in Windows XP compatibility mode. I've heard of a few games and apps that don't run well under Vista's native mode. -
check the graphics settings, i think there was a fps cap at 30.
-
yes, there is a 30FPS cap, which makes the game look laggy sometimes, also Halo doesnt run great with newer drivers, if you want best performance then you'll have to rollback to very old drivers.

The original Halo PC doesn't play well with Vista in my experience. I seem to recall similar performance problems on my desktop, so I just gave up on it. Not that that helps, but at least you know you're not alone! lol

Turn VSync off, that locks the fps to your refresh rate (which is most likely 60, so you if it's on you can't get more than 60fps). I have Halo for pc, and get around 220fps, everything maxed and turned 16X AA and AF in the Nvidia Control panel and it's running at 1280x800, so you should be getting tons of fps.
Also, hold control and press F12 to see your FPS. It will show a graph of your fps. -
thanks I'll have try uncapping it & checking the settings, & yes my driver is up to date on the 8800GTX
Low fps on Halo PC...but I have an 8800GTX ????
