hey, I was just wondering a while ago after looking at screen shots of games on maxed and high settings. So i was wondering what usually is the lowest FRPs for game play to be smooth (or somewhat smooth)

Anything above 40 fps is smooooooth. Preferably above 60 so that you won`t ever see lag.
-
was looking at nfs pro street maxed so i wondered if 35 would have been acceptable

my computer is crap specs below so anything between 15-25 is good for me prefer 20-25 though
-
In a fast paced game, you need over 50 to feel smooth motion. I`m a quake3 addict and nothing below 75 works for me, because you move veeeery fast in that game.
But Crysis for example, with postprocessing on high seems smooth at over 20 fps. -
40 and above is (generally) silky smooth, although 25-40 is (mostly) still playable.
-
As long as it doesnt go below the 25 mark as a minimum most games will be plenty smooth. I used to play nfs underground 2 at 15 or so and it was playable but not "smooth". Bioshock is fine at around 30. But some games arent smooth at 40 odd. It really depends on the game as to the frame rate needed. But mostly over 40 will be like silk.
-
30fps is fine for me. The only thing that really matters to me is the consistency of the framerate as the constant changing of it is what gives the laggy feeling most of the time.
-

The reality of the whole FPS thing is generally how and what the person perceives as smooth and playable. If 20 works for one person it might no work for the next, 30, 40, etc..and vice versa.
For general gaming anything above 25ish is usually fine. At least in my experiences it is. You DO NOT need 60+ fps to enjoy a game and those that say other wise are usually boastful idiots that like to brag because they have "top gpu card".
Another thing I've noticed to take into consideration is the type of game being played. There is games that are made for high end cards but will still run perfectly fine on lower end ones at lower settings with out a hitch, someone mentioned this on another topic but games like UT3, HL2 etc..are all very well balanced games capable of being played on a decent gpu. But then there is games that wont cut a lower end gpu any slack.
It all depends really. -
aite thxs alot........but ppl still vote
-
It also depends on the game.
First Person Shooters generally need to stay above 25.
RTS and RPGs above 20.
Minesweeper above 6.
-
what about racing games like nfs pro street and test drive unlimited?
-
Those would fall into the first category, since reaction time is key.
-
Coming from someone that tried to play BioShock and UT3 on a X3100, 20FPS is smooth enough for me.
-
lol kk, aite i see
-
May I ask which games you are playing? What driver are using? Sounds like the T5250 in your machine thats holding you back from a decent gaming experience. Take in note that the 8600m GS is a capable card in the lower end of the midrange cards. You can get very good performance out it with the rite setup.
I get good performance out of it with my setup. (in my sig). -

My 3DMark06 with 2690 un-overclocked. I use 169.09. Now I am overclocked, but I haven't ran 3DMark again.

my 3dmark06 is next to the my os's below and my clock is 500\400
-
Hmm... that is strange. My factory clocks are 450/600, but I am now OC'd to 550/650.

i tried to tweak it with rivatuner but it ending up worst
-
Wow. Did you get lower 3DMark scores?
-
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
of course but i posted my highest but in 3dmark the cpu has a real low score i have just ran the test about 1 hours ago i still have the page open
-
Weird Rivatuner made it worse. I saw a good 8FPS boost in CoD4 and UT3 when overclocking. I just run it at 1024x768, all extra high, and always get a steady 40+FPS.
-

what were your settings
-
I OC'd to 550/650 from 450/600. It worked out really well.
-
It's really matter of what you've used to.
My friend seems to play games at even as low as 15 fps and say's it's fine.
Me, myself with my cs addiction awhile back seem to puke under 25-30. -
"Dondadah" your computer is not "crap" get a grip man. I cant stand when people have a so called bad experience with a specific company and they end up bashing it for as long as they live just cause they where not satisfied with the product.
Nothing about the HP dv9500t is "crap" except for the 1.5ghz you have. Thats your boltneck. Thats very low end for the games your running on it. So please speak for your self. -
Well, obviously he isn't happy with it. It scores lower than my 8400GT in benchmarking, which shouldn't be right. The 8600GS should score a tiny bit higher than the 8400GT.
If he thinks it's crap, it's his right. He has just as much a right to bash it as you do to defend it. -
I voted 40fps because thats representative of an average frame rate I would like to attain - minimum.
But if you meant at what level a game would be actually playable in general terms, I would have voted for 30. -
Depends on the game, play the UT and Quake series and most gamers will chafe at anything lower than 40fps. Play NWN, NWN2 and the KOTOR series and 20+fps should be more than sufficient for most players.
-
Any one played nfs pro street with settings maxed or high? was the game play smooth
-
usapatriot Notebook Nobel Laureate
I'd say that anything more than 24fps is smooth to me.
-
Well that should be fine after gaming so long on my Intel 915GMA....i could have played F.E.A.R but with everything low...FPS were very low but it was somewhat playable, if i played in multi player i usually would get owned since system was real slow
-
In other genres it depends considerable, RTS for example far fewer are needed. But racing is pretty dependent on being able to react quickly, for obvious reasons. -
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
in order to get more fps should i get a 2.2ghz c2d
