The lappy in my sig, heavily OCed, plays even Crysis at med-high 1440 no problem. So today, just out of random curiosity, I clicked on the Chess Titan which comes with Vista, and boom! the game lags like hell with something around 7 fps...wtf? Does Chess Titan really react that badly to OC? Anyone else experiencing the same problem? Cause all the other more intensive games work FINE with my OC...damn...must be another microsoft ploy to avert people from ocing....![]()
-
how does it run with default clocking?
-
-
hahaha...
this is such a comic incident...which i imagine in my mind when trying to make fun of Vista.
Okay on a serious note, how do u determine fps of Chess? its a 3D game but it does not have maps or environment.
and even if u do using Fraps i guess.
I think its coz your GPU is GDDR3 .. i think thats an undervolted version and coz of which OCing is causing fps problem
. -
Might want to rephrase that last sentence buddy I have no idea what your are trying to say.
TO OP:
Some games is just more OC sensitive then the others, for example, I figured that my OC limit is 600/440 (DDR2 Version), but under Fear I can overclock to 600/490 and it will not crash at all. On the other hand, when I start Team Fortress 2 with 600/450, it will crash almost immediately. So, it really depends on the game, in this case even if it is a chess game. xD -
HOLY CRAP! We get a free 3D chess game in Vista?? WHY WAS I NOT TOLD!?
*checks game's explorer*
*gasps* It's really there!
Try turning off your OC to see if it is actually causing the problem. -
You need SLI for chess titan. Its a very graphic intensive game, specially when the horse moves
crysis aint got nothing on chess -
-
Haha...definitely!Even Crysis doesn't chug on my PC that much, but not Chess Titan! That game must be using the REAL dx10...
But really, gauging from FRAPS, the game runs fine with default clock even with ALL the settings MAXED OUT *Gasp! Blasphemy!*. It doesn't crash, but it just gets SUPER choppy when my GPU is OCed...
Guess Vista is too sensitive....
(!!!WARNING!!! Sensitive OS inside, use with EXTREME caution.) -
his Graphic card ..
8600GT comes in 2 versions.. one is DDR2 & the other is DDR3.
the DDR3 is an undervolted version...which means it is not OC friendly.
check this article on NBR: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=147214
Now tell me what u dont understand about my previous post. -
The ddr3 Overclocks MUCH better than the Ddr2 version, undeclocked or not. It`s not a matter of the problem.
Some games just handle OCing differently, although I`d have issues calling MS Chess Titan a game -
Dude...can you say that my DDR3 is not OC friendly after seeing the OC in my sig? The DDR3 is SOOOO OCable that I can actually stretch the memory clock from the default 702 to something like 950 without a hitch...talking about OCeability here.... -
Chess Titan is definitely a game...least more of a game than you may think of it as....
It's 3D, supports AA, Reflections, Gloss etc....and most importantly, it is developed by MICROSOFT!!! the mother of all game developers.
*no sarcasm intended* -
Iceman0124 More news from nowhere
How exactly have you deduced its yor OC causing the problems? It could be a number of things, from in game settings/driver settings /driver bug background process. If you have everything maxed, try toning the settings down a little, you dont exactly have a powerhouse card to begin with.
-
All I can say is that I seriously hope the OP is kidding...
My laptop is pretty much perma-OC'd to the stats below. Not once have I seen even the slightest issue with MS chess (entertaining every so often even though I beat it pretty much 100%)
Just wondering... what is your temp at when OC'd to those clocks after say 10 minutes? 690 core is pushing the 8600m and that Dell case quite a bit without external cooling.
Oh, and just for reference... 3dmark ratings without resolution tested at is completely meaningless. -
I don't keep my OC, so I only OC when I play intensive games such as Crysis, and I OC manually via RivaTuner every time prior to playing games.
I finished playing Crysis the day before, and just happend to click on Chess Titan, and the game ran POORLY, which I initially had NO idea what is causing it, since the game worked fine before. I restarted my PC, and since I did not check the box in RivaTuner "Apply Settings on StartUP", the OCs are not applied when I restarted my PC, and the game worked fine again. So I tested the game by OCing my GPU, and yep, the game performs poorly when the GPU is OCed.
Go try it out yourself. I am using the 169.44 driver, and the OCs are in my sig. -
Wait...wtf? I tried OC with Chess Titan today and no problem??!!!
I don't know now...maybe OC is not the cause for the problem after all...
(No performance gain in Chess Titan when I OC though...) -
Iceman0124 More news from nowhere
That doesnt mean your OC caused it, after a fresh boot, set the same OC then try to run it, if the problem persists you may be on to something, but I suspect its just due to resources not being freed up properly from crysis or someother process you had running.

Try playing chess titans after playing Crysis

Dude, Chess makes my head heart. Na ah.

masterchef341 The guy from The Notebook
i dont know why anyone thinks the 8600m gt gddr3 version is undervolted...
its under 'clocked' by default in some notebooks. its overclocks extremely well. the only reason i couldn't OC it before was because of a driver bug. it had just been released at the time. i couldn't change the clocks at ALL, up or down. now i can. -
What I always wanted to do is to have 2 vista PCs running chess titan all at level 9 and let them face each other.... -
I play every day at lunch... to make my head STOP hurting.
(very frustrating people at work sometimes, chess is a nice get-away... everything is logical and predictable to some degree)
Quite honestly, I think the problem is heat... with that large of an OC, it is possible heat buildup is causing the OP's computer to downclock.
M$ Chess Titan can't handle overclock?
