Its just a number in my opinion, but my 7900GTX when i run 3dmark05, gets 8000 plus or minus a few point. Is this really normal?

Can anyone reccomend me drivers? Im using tweaksrus drivers now (version 84.37) and i thought about trying the 84.27s, since those have given a lot of people good results.

I also did the stress test in CS:S, and got an average of 98FPS a second.

    Normal?

    Another question:

When i try to overclock the card in the nVidia menu, it just goes back to the default when i test it, hit apply, then okay.
I guess i need to do something else to overclock it.

Just curious though, because there is no need to overclock it, and i would like to know why it doesnt work

3dmark05 score of 8000...what do you want more! Just joking fellow :) Thats a great score indeed, maybe installing the drivers from laptopvideo2go will give a little better result, but your graphics card is great.

Stop making such teasy threads, it makes me depressive :)

8000 is the max I got with 7800GTX (after OC) so 7900TGX without OC is better than great score.

the 7900 gtx averages 8.5 k with any oc'ing. I say that your score is a little low, you might wanna update drivers, oc a little bit, defrag harddrive, etc. Also the quadro fx 2500 averages that too so your getting beaten by a OpenGL based video card LOL

Also note that he has an T2400 and only 1 GB of DDR2... in most reviews they use T2500/T2600 with 2 GB of DDR2. That can explain the difference of 500 points.

1 Golden Tip: Always fully reinstall your notebook after getting it from Dell. Always defrag, install new drivers and keep your notebook clean :)

Yep, i can bet you anything, i need more ram, and a more powerful CPU

Some may think it might not help, but then why do you need to have a minimal of stuff running in the background? (RAM)?

so ill get 2GB, and see what happens.

For now, i hope i can get at least 8100

Anyone reccomend any drivers? Im using 84.37's currently

I see the option to OC as well, but when i try to, it just switches back to what it was before

    Any help?

For nVidia I recommend XtremeG - most stable, best scores!!

I'd use either the ones from www.tweaksrus.com or the www.laptopvideo2go.com ones.

As stated, most of the review machines had a T2600 and 2GB - the latter doesn't make a difference in 3DMark. I put updated drivers on my XPS (laptopvideo2go).

I wouldn't even worry about 3DMark - after all, it is simply a syntheic benchmark. All that really counts is gaming performance.

    Have fun,
    Chaz

Nick, Dell locks the card's BIOS to prevent you from overclocking. You have to flash the BIOS if you want to OC. There are a few threads on notebookforums about it. Someone even made an ISO you can download (although it's better to just make one yourself). You can't use drivers though

Hey I have a 1710 Intel Core 2 Duo 7400 at 2.16Ghz, 512 Gforece 7900 GTX, 2g of ram and all I get in my 3dMark05 is 8170. i think this is low for this type. I ahve seen other with same specifications get 8400 - 8500.

Can anybody tell me what to do? Where's the best place to update graphic drivers?

It isn't a bad score if that is what you are asking. If the machine runs your games fine, then I wouldn't pay too much attention to the 3DMark program.
Check to see if Dell has any new video drivers for download if you are that concerned.

Well the thing is I wanted to update my graphic card driver from the current version to a newer one listed at the DELL site. However I have heard people have been having problem after uninstalling the current driver and installing the new one.

Do you think I should do it?! And if yes, what's the best way to go about it. Can't I install the new driver over the other one? Afterall, there is a rollback option at windows to go back to your old driver.

thats totally it. i have a t2500 and get about an 8400. and 2 gigs may help alittle too.

for the golden tip, i reinstalled and didn't really get any performance boost (after all that work!!! :( ), but defragging REALLY helps.

A reformat doesn't help much with the M90s cause they don't come with all the bloatware that other Dells do. The only crap we get are Google Desktop and Embassy security suite. Uninstall those, clean up your apps, and you'll be running in the low 40s for processes on the M90 without a reformat. I get maybe mid 30s after I reformat and reinstall all the drivers, utilities, and security programs.

Still, you would think that with the price you pay for an M1710, Dell would cut back on some of the crap.

Well that is strange tangent, after reformatting my notebook and with a fresh install I had 150 3dmark05 points more. Not much, but significant. After defragging and shutting all running programs (including WLAN, Bluetooth, Norton Antivirus) etc. I had around 100 3dmark05 points more.

Don't worry too much about benchmark scores. Concentrate on your real-life gaming experience. Is it lacking? Can't be. Your system(s) are very powerful and can handle anything you throw at them.

@Eneid--you don't have to update your GPU drivers. If they're working without problems they are fine. But by upgrading them you can increase performance a little. I'd go with the ones Chaz mentioned above since you asked. And if you haven't already read through Chaz's sticky on the subject:

    Enjoy your gaming beasts ;).

I have a 256MB version of the 7900GTX, a T2400 and 2GB of ram. With 3Dmark05 i get only 78XX points which is a bit low. When i OC my gpu almost 10% i get 85XX points with 3Dmark05. 3Dmark06 score is at stock 45XX points and OC'ed it becomes 49XX to 50XX points.
