    Hi
I bought GTX 970m. I installed it to the M6700. it's started and go straight to the Windows. When I install modified drivers and install it it's only screen blink and nothing happend, after I look to the device manager it shows code 43 I try different vbios but no luck. I have bios on Dell motherboard A20 And clevo version of the GPU. Can it be repaired with some modding a luck or I waste my money?? Thanks for quick response.

Well, if you changed the vBIOS's on the card and made sure you modded the drivers right, and still get a code 43, that means that the card is broken on a physical level. I would try to return it as broken depending on where you got it from. If you got the 970m from a Chinese seller on ebay, your money probably isn't coming back as they usually have shady bussiness policies and the warranties are super short.

Yeah if you did get a relatively cheap chinese one it could be fried because it should just plug and play with driver modding, I don't think vbios modding is necessary for this card with the m6700. I had one in my old m6700 and it worked fine.

That is almost an instant guarantee it is a dead/dying card. Alive enough to not bomb out on post but fails as soon as you install drivers.

Clevo vBIOS tends to work in some form on just about every system it is installed in. You just may need a more compatible vBIOS if temps are reading wrong and/or fan controls don't work.

Where did you buy it from and when? You may be able to get your money back depending on those factors.

Well, all of the 9xx MXM cards are basically the same, the difference is the vBIOS on them. Theres not really a benefit over picking one branded on over another, but I think a Dell/Alienware one might be the best for your m6700. Also, depending on what you're doing, it may be better to get a 980m or even a 1060. I'm currently using a 970m right now and I can only run most games att lowest settings at 1080p for over 60ish fps.

If you're in the US, this 980m would be your best bet:

If you go up with the 970m route, this would be your best bet:

I personally lean towards Clevo cards followed by MSI then Alienware. Even installing them numerous times as upgrades into Alienware 17s and 18s, I still leaned towards Clevo cards and would just download the Dell vBIOS Primary/Secondary vBIOSes and flash them.

In the end, just about any will work but Clevos are just about as universally compatible as they get. It is just making sure you have a supported vBIOS with proper thermal detection and fan controls. Worse case scenario you can manually control the fans but that is a pain in the rear end.

970m is the safe bet in regards to VRMs and longevity, but since the 9XXm is almost all used cards with many repaired, it can sometimes be a crap shoot.

As @Tenoroon pointed out, depending on your use case, a 980m or 1060 might provide more punch for your use.

And yeah, you definitely need to make sure to reach out to the seller and if they don't provide a return request in 48hrs open up an item is defective case ASAP before your 30 day protection is up.

I think the only ones to avoid are the ones out of hp, iirc they don't have the vbios onboard at all and are dependent on the host system bios, other than that it's pretty open ended. But for the prices of those old parts now and the performance, you can not be too far off from a 1650 laptop which is roughly 980m perf. or a 1050ti laptop which is 970m perf., with the sale of your old laptop.

Bugging you guys here to see if someone can help me. :) I upgraded from a K4000M to M4000M (GTX 970 with 4gb vram) but with this new GPU I am unable to output monitor resolutions over 1080p and refresh rates over 60hz.
With the K4000M I was able to output 4k@30 and 1080p@120Hz, using the same cable on the same displays. This GPU seems extremely stubborn. Trying to force it with custom resolutions doesn't seem to work.
Ive tried both stock NVIDIA and DELL vbios.
    Any ideas?

If the laptop is using Optimus to run the GPU, then that may be the issue, if not, it may just be because the card was never intended to be ran in the machine. I'm not too knowledgeable on this kind of stuff, but check if you are using Optimus first.

Hi im upgraded my M6700 firepro M6000 to GTX 970m , Bios A20 , as is expected the bios shows unknown vga but it see the 6gb vram .
So what you need is the old x bracket from the amd card, new thermal pads and paste. After i've installed the gtx , driver inf mod needed (on yt plenty of vids available how to do it) , few mins of furmark, and firestrike https://www.3dmark.com/3dm/67863620?

    Some bonus:
The guy who sell me the 970m claims that in the Alienware 17 R1 the vga or the bios not handling the fans correctly, for me no problem. On the aw the lastest bios was installed.
