since the mbp have been upgraded, the 2.33hgz version turning into the 2.4ghz version, and the video card changing from x1600 256gddr3ram to 8600gt 256gddr3ram. is there a major difference in performance between the two laptops? especially in video performance. what else did they change besides tthe gpu and cpu?
    thanks all with any idea.

LED screen for a lighter laptop and more battery life. Otherwise, it's still the same exterior.

It's a jump alright but it wont really be night and day between the too. Dont get me wrong, the 8600gt is better than the x1600 but it's not a huuuuuuuuuuge jump.

I agree with Jessi, the X1600 is still a good card.

the 8600GT IMO is a much better card and worth the upgrade alone....
It also supports DX10 in Windows where as the X1600 is DX9.

Not to mention the new Macbook Pro can support up to 4GB of RAM as well as whats mentioned above.

FWIW, I have the 128MB X1600 in my MBP 2.16 and it plays Company of Heroes and GTR2 great under Vista.

even though im a hardcore ATI fanboy, i would have to say go with the 8600. newer shader capabilities and better performance.

it doesn't take a fan boy to pick something. any reasonable person would pick 8600 over x1600.

Obviously, if it was a choice between the two, go with the 8600GT. But if you already have a MBP with the x1600, I don't think it's worth the trouble to upgrade. Might as well wait another generation.
