    Hello,

Anyone knows a way to overclock the 8600M GT in a Macbook Pro running Vista?

I try many times different drivers and Rivatuner versions and could'nt find a solution.

The problem is the GPU altering the clock rates in 4 level, the highest is the one with 470 MHz. Tools like Rivatuner show only 3 clock level, "2d" -169 MHz, "3D Low" -283 MHz and "3D Performance" with 375 MHz. I'm not able to change the highest clock level that is unnamed in Rivatuner but active under load.

Whats your notice? Do your MBP altering the clock rates/level at the same way? Is there a way to overclock the GPU permanent, for example by manipulating die EFI/BIOS Emulation?

I've would be happy about any answer or experience. Sorry for bad english.

    Greetings,
    alfons

I don't even have a fourth level. 3D Performance is the highest one I can choose. But it does work. Why don't you use that one?

Get driver 169.04 from laptopvideo2go.com and install it.
Make sure you have the NEWEST RivaTuner. That would be 2.06. I think it was released yesterday or the day before.

Only mess with the "3D Performance" part. That is what you want to overclock. Start in 5 Mhz increments and work your way up.

Good Luck and tell me how it turns out.

    Thats interesting.

These are the clock rates rivatuner detects at start:

And here you can see my MBP changes clock rates in 4 level when I shortly start a 3D application. I did'nt change the clock rates manually. The clock rates shown are similar to high

Maybe I have an other BIOS version.

I try all driver versions from 158.xx to 169.04 and Rivtuner 2.04 to 2.06 . No luck :( . I only could change the rates of the 3rd level.

I have the same MBP like you, 15", T7700, 256mb 8600GT, 160GB 7200rpm. Bootcamp 1.4 Beta and Vista x32. Why does my MBP not the same things like yours?!

Here a shot of the system information on the Nvidia panel. Do you have the same BIOS version?

    bump

Sorry for bumping a slightly old thread but I'm having the same issues. Obviously the 3D performance's clocks are the only one that I can change, but that is not the profile that is active during games. There's a mysterious 470/635 profile that is always active during Oblivion or TF2 or even 3DMark 06. Even when my 3D performance clocks are set to 550/750, they are only active immediately after I quit a game, as if it were a profile that is one step lower than that 4th profile. Basically, I can't control the profile that is active during load, so I basically can't see actual gains from overclocking.
